Overview:
• Modular learning is a form of distance learning that
uses Self-Learning Modules (SLM) based on the most
essential learning competencies (MELCS) provided by
DepEd.
• The modules include sections on motivation and
assessment that serve as a complete guide of both
teachers’ and students’ desired competencies.

Overview:
• Isa sa mga learning modalities na kasalukuyang
inooffer ng mga paaralan ay ang Modular Distance
Learning (MDL). Ang MDL ay intended sa mga learners
na walang sapat na gadgets at internet connection.
• Sa modality na ito, ang mga modules ang makakaharap
ng mga mag-aaral upang matutunan ang kanilang mga
lessons.

Misconceptions about Modular Distance
Learning (MDL)
• You don’t need the internet in MDL
• Everything you need to know is in the module.
• MDL is easy. The answers to the exercises are at the
back of the modules.
• Teachers don’t teach in MDL.

Roles of Parents in Modular Distance Learning
• According to the Department of Education (DepEd),
parents and guardians perform the various roles in
Modular Learning such as:
• Module-ator
• Bundy-clock
• Home Innovator

Roles of Parents in Modular Distance Learning
• Module-ator. They are the ones to get and submit the
printed Self-Learning Modules (SLMs) from and to
schools or barangay halls at the beginning and end of
the week, depending on the agreement between the
parents and the school.

Roles of Parents in Modular Distance Learning
• Bundy-clock. They must check their child's schedule
or workweek plan. Because of the number of subjects
or activities to be done, they must see that it is being
followed accordingly to avoid cramming or delays in
submission, which may affect the child's performance.

Roles of Parents in Modular Distance Learning
• Home Innovator. They must provide their child with a
productive learning environment to help them focus
more on Learning. It must be a well-lighted and well-
ventilated space in the house, with little or no
distraction.

Advantages of Modular Distance Learning
• Encourages independent study. Acquisition of better
self-study or learning skills among students.
• Students develop a sense of responsibility in
accomplishing the tasks provided in the module.
• More choice and self-pacing for students;
• More variety and flexibility for teachers and staff
• Increased adaptability of instructional materials.

Disadvantages of Modular Distance Learning
• Greater self-discipline and self-motivation required for
students
• Increased preparation time and lack of concrete
rewards for teachers and staff.
• Greater administrative resources needed to track
students and operate multiple modules.

Challenges Encountered by Teachers in
Modular Distance Learning (MDL)
• Most students cannot study independently. 70% of
them cannot easily follow instructions in the modules.
Thus, modules were often submitted late, and most of
the answer sheets are blank.
• The teachers think that students' answers in their
modules have no validity, and most probably, mastery
of the lessons is impossible to attain.
