What is AI biasness?
z

 Artificial intelligence (AI) is intelligence demonstrated by machines, unlike the

natural intelligence displayed by humans and animals, which involves
consciousness and emotionality.
 AI bias is anomaly in the output of machine learning algorithms. These could be
due to the prejudiced assumptions made during the algorithm development
process or in the training data.
 The main types of AI biasness includes:
1.) Cognitive Bias
2.) Lack of complete data
3.) Sample Bias
4.) Measurement bias
Amazon’s biased recruiting tool
z

 Amazon started an AI project in 2014

 By 2015, Amazon realized that their
new AI recruiting system  showed bias
against women
 Historical data from the last 10-years
was used to train their AI model
 Amazon’s recruiting system incorrectly
learnt that male candidates were
preferable
 It penalized resumes that included the
word “women’s,” as in “women’s chess
club captain.”

Facebook's Ad's Algorithm

• Target adverts according to gender, race

and religion
o Job adverts for roles in nursing or secretarial
work were suggested primarily to women
o Ads for real estate attain better
engagement stats when shown to white
people

• Ad platform formed a pattern that reflected existing

societal inequalities

• A  one size fits all approach is likely to be

insufficient

• AI doesn't necessarily exacerbate structural
problems

Will AI Ever Be Completely Unbiased?

- Can anything be Unbiased .

- Improved input data and Algorithms.

- Human Made

- Awareness of Biasness in AI.
