GUIDES FOR PRESENTATION DRAWINGS
VISUAL PRESENTATIONS
Presentation Drawings
- These are the medium in which designers visually present their ideas, designs,
are presented in a way where creativity is expressed along with the concepts and
solutions.

-These drawings are presented through Manual or Computer-Generated

Drawings.
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS
UNDERSTANDING ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION DRAWINGS
3 Categories of Drawing
A. Ideation – exploring ideas, conceptualizing using sketches
B. Consultation with Allied Professionals to create Presentation Drawings
C. Technical Information for Construction.
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS
UNDERSTANDING ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION DRAWINGS
Unlike Fine Art, Design drawing requires adherence to conventions, proportional
scale, and accuracy of line.
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS
UNDERSTANDING ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION DRAWINGS
Design Drawings are HIGHLY STANDARDIZED so that they carry a Universal
Meaning.

UNDERSTANDING ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION DRAWINGS
“Design Drawings are much like a language, the drawings must convey the
designers’ meaning clearly.”
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS
UNDERSTANDING ORTHOGRAPHIC PROJECTION DRAWINGS
Orthographic Drawings are created by projecting information about an object into
an imaginary plane known as the PICTURE PLANE.

This Direct Projection of an Object’s Dimensions allow orthographic projections to

retain shape and proportion, making these drawings, accurate and precise.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS?
A. FLOOR PLAN
- a view as though looking
straight down at a room or building after a
horizontal cut has been made through the
structure.

-a floor plan can also be called a HORIZONTAL

BUILDING SECTION because the drawing is created
by cutting through the building horizontally at roughly
four to five feet above floor level and removing the top
half.

B. ELEVATIONS

Elevations are created to

reveal
exterior or interior elements
and features of the building.
ORTHOGRAPHIC DRAWINGS
C. SECTIONS
- a building section is a view created as
though a vertical plane has cut through the
building and been removed. Unlike
interior elevations, which depict only
what occurs inside the interior, sections
can expose the structure of the building.
- In drawing sections, it is important to
include the outline of the structural
elements as well as the internal
configuration of the interior space.

D. ROOF PLANS AND REFLECTED
CEILING PLANS
- the ROOF PLAN is the view from the
topmost level of the picture plan. Compared
to the floor plan, the ROOF PLAN is not a
Horizontal Section.

- the REFLECTED CEILING PLAN is often used in

conjunction with floor plans, elevations, and
sections to communicate interior design.
Reflected ceiling plans communicate important
information about the design of the ceiling, such
as materials, layout and locations of fixtures, and
ceiling heights.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN
“SCHEME” - Graphic presentation of preliminary
- The creation of relationship diagrams design;
is often a first step in the schematic - Can include relationship diagrams;
design of a project. blocking and fit plans; preliminary space
plan(s);
Preliminary conceptual, spatial, conceptual, - Preliminary furnishing and equipment
and technical design of project. layouts;
Includes preliminary space planning often - Preliminary elevations and sections;
using; relationship diagrams; matrices; bubble preliminary 3-D drawings;
diagrams; blocking diagrams; stacking plans; - Preliminary color and materials
and fit plans studies; and study models.
SCHEMATIC DESIGN
BUBBLE DIAGRAM
- As relationship diagrams begin to incorporate
and account for necessary requirements and
adjacencies, they can become refined into what
are generally referred to as BUBBLE
DIAGRAMS.
