Background Information
In this lesson, you will learn and
understand how to draw basic
shapes.You will be creating
complex forms by using and
combining geometric shapes.
Line is everywhere. Shape is
everywhere. We can see them
everywhere. Lines and shapes are
very important to you as a
beginner in making drawings as
you in this course.
All objects can be represented
and drawn using basic objects as
foundation of drawing
construction.
The following are examples of
shapes:

CIRCLE SQUARE
TRI
ANGLE

OVAL RECTANGLE

7
As you go along
in this lesson,
you are able to
learn basic tips
in basic
drawing.
8
SQUARE
- is a four-sided shape
that is made up of four
straight sides that are
the same length and has
four right angles.

9
How to draw a SQUARE?
1. Draw a vertical
straight line. At the
endpoint, start to draw a
horizontal straight line.

10
How to draw a SQUARE?
2. Connect a vertical
straight line on the
endpoint of the
horizontal line.

11
How to draw a SQUARE?
3. Connect the two
vertical lines to form a
square.

12
CIRCLE
- is a perfectly round
shape; a line that is
curved. CIRCLE

13
How to draw a CIRCLE?
1. Using a ruler,
measure out a perfect
square.

14
How to draw a CIRCLE?
2. From the top of the
left corner, draw a
slanting line. Draw the
second from top-right to
lower-left.

15
How to draw a CIRCLE?
3. Add tow center lines.
4. Plot dots at every
incremental thirds of
each lines.

16
How to draw a CIRCLE?
5. Draw your circle by
connecting the dots as
you can see on the
illustration. Then erase
those lines using an
eraser.
17
ELLIPSE
- is a shape that
resembles flattened
circle.

18
How to draw an ELLIPSE?
1. Draw two lines
crossing each other. One
is short vertical line and
the other is a longer
horizontal line.

19
How to draw an ELLIPSE?
2. Plot end points and connect the lines to form
an ellipse as you follow the instruction.

20
If we combine the different basic
shapes, we can achieve the
ILLUSION OF VOLUMES which is
good exercise for all the beginners,
and for you to be able to practice
drawing.
21
The following are examples of
illusion of volumes:

22
CUBE
- is the regular solid of
six equal squares sides.
It is a 3D square.

23
How to draw a CUBE?
1. Draw a square.
2. Make an overlapped
secondary square that is
slightly higher and
away from the first
square.
24
How to draw a CUBE?
3. Using lines, connect
the four corners of the
two squares.

25
How to draw a CUBE?
4. All the interior lines
must be erased to see
the front, top and side
view of the cube.

26
CONE
- is an illusion of
volume that has a
circular base with sides
that taper up to a point
or apex.

27
How to draw a CONE?
1. Draw a triangle.
2. At the bottom of the
triangle, draw an oval
shape.
3. Erase the unnecessary
lines
28
CYLINDER
- is a geometric shape
that has parallel sides
and a circular cross
section.

29
How to draw a CYLINDER?
1. Draw two
symmetrical oval or
round shapes.

30
How to draw a CYLINDER?
2. Draw a rectangle or
square depending on the
length of oval or circle.
3. Erase unnecessary
lines.

31
SPHERE
- is a three-dimensional
shape that looks like a
ball.

32
How to draw a SPHERE?
1. Draw a circle.
2. Draw a half-round line inside the circle.

33
How to draw a SPHERE?
3. Darken the part
where the half-round
line was located.
4. Darken a small part
outside the circle.

34
WRITTEN ACTIVITY

I will send the activities in

our GC. Your answers will
be written on a long pad
paper.
PERFORMANCE TASK
Draw the following illusion of volumes
on a short bond paper.
a. CUBE
b. CONE
c. CYLINDER
d. SPHERE
PERFORMANCE TASK SCORING:
1.Cleanliness – 5 points
2. Effort – 5 points

The submission of the activities and

performance task will be on the next date of
distribution and retrieval of modules.
