SGA Policies
1. Given the responsibilities of the positions, in order to run for Junior Class President, Senior Class President
or SGA Exec. President, candidates must have been involved with SGA as a representative or an officer in
the past or present. All Executive Board positions are a senior privilege – ONLY SENIORS can run.
2. Attendance at SGA meetings is MANDATORY! See the next slide for the attendance policy. Failure to
adhere to the attendance policy will result in your dismissal from SGA. Meetings will take place before or
after school, work or sports cannot be an excuse!
3. Be aware that depending on vote of individual class boards in September, attendance will be
required/counted at class board events (typically one per quarter) such as fundraisers, dues collection, t-shirt
sales, prom organization, Senior Activities in order to ensure equitable and active participation by all
members of the class board.
4. You must contact your class sponsor and/or the SGA sponsor beforehand if you are going to miss a meeting
for any reason. This is very important if your absence is going to be excused. Even repeated excused
absences may result in your removal from SGA. The SGA sponsor and your class sponsor will decide if
your reasons warrant an excused absence.
5. Committee meetings are a very important part of your SGA responsibilities. Good attendance/participation
at these meetings is also required. Negligence in maintaining good attendance at committee meetings may
result in your removal from SGA – officers will be on one school committee; everyone will be on one
Homecoming committee.
SGA Constitution Article VII: Discipline and Attendance
•Section One: All SGA officers and representatives are expected to be at every meeting.
•Section Two: Each SGA officer and representative will be allowed three unexcused absences per quarter.
•Section Three: If any officer or representative accumulates more than three unexcused absences, the reasons for the
absences will be examined by the SGA sponsor and President and the member may be subject to removal. Any vacancies
will be filled according to the procedures outlined in Article VI.
•Section Four: An excused absence is any absence accompanied by a letter or email from a parent, guardian, coach, club
sponsor, or teacher. The SGA sponsor has the universal right to back check any letter if he/she deems it necessary.
Absences due to attending other club or organization meetings or making up missed assignments for academic classes on
class board or SGA meeting days will not be excusable absences
•Section Five: Absences may be excused by either SGA sponsor or the respective class sponsor by one week after a missed
meeting. Failure to do so results in an unexcused absence. However, students are encouraged to contact board or SGA
sponsor PRIOR to missing a meeting.
•Section Six: Three documented cases of late arrival or tardiness to class board or SGA meetings will be counted as one
absence. Repeated excused absences will be considered by the sponsors and may also be counted as official absences.
•Section Seven: Attendance will be required at class board events including, but not limited to, fundraisers, dues collection,
t-shirt sales, prom organization, senior activities, blood drives, hospital visits, etc. in order to ensure equitable and active
participation by all members of the class board. Failure to attend an activity/event that one signed up for will result in one
unexcused absence for every event not present for.
•Section Eight: If any officer or representative acts in a way that is detrimental to the good of the board or of the SGA in
the opinion of his/her sponsor and/or peers, he/she may be removed upon recommendation by the next highest ranking
officer of that board to the SGA sponsor.
Campaign Rules
Due to Covid19 and the Live students Campaigning will look a little different.
1. You must have a 2.5 GPA to run for office – this will be checked through guidance.
2. You MUST have no SGA related obligations (class dues, etc) outstanding when you file
your candidate application. I will be checking with the bookkeeper.
3. Due to Covid19 there will be no posters, banners, buttons or shirts this year. The next
slide will detail this years campaigning procedures.
4. Positive campaigning ONLY! No negative attacks. NO candidate materials should depict
or promote alcohol, tobacco products, drugs, weapons, profanity, sexual innuendo or
interest groups that promote hate crimes.
5. NO handed-out “items”/bribes/gifts such as candy, gift cards, beads, pens, etc.! You will
be disqualified if you do this! Instead talk to people and tell them why they should vote
for you.

6. DO NOT CAMPAIGN ON SOCIAL MEDIA!

Campaign Rules
Due to Covid19 and the Live students Campaigning will look a little different.
We would like each candidate to submit a power point slide (see the sample).

The power point slide will be shared on the website and through English classes before
students cast their votes.

Students may decorate the slide as they see fit with a short campaign video, what position
they are running for, past accomplishments, a picture of themselves and a little bit about
why you want to be considered for that position. The videos must be no more than 10
seconds and students may only use one slide.

***Everything must be school appropriate or it will not be included in the final

presentation.***
