searches; and

 Evaluate website’s credibility.


Online Searching

 Also called as “ Internet searching

 It is the term to described the method of collection from the internet.

Online Researching

 It is the term to describe the systematic investigation into and study of


materials and sources in order to establish facts and reach new and
significant conclusions.
Contextualized Online Searching

 It is form of optimizing web-based search result based on the


context provided by the user.

 It attempts to increase the precision of results based on how


valuable they are to the individual users.
WHAT ARE THE ADVICES OR TIPS FOR ONLINE RESEARCHING?
 Have a question in mind
 Users usually has a curiosity or interest that may trigger them to search or
research in the internet
 Search and look for credible information and resources.
 Once you’ve founded out what you are going to search or research, search the
internet or web.
 Look only for credible websites that can help you in founding the exact or
specific information that you are interested in.
 Be more specific
 Aside from searching in credible websites or sources, the user should
specifically say what exact information they are looking for
 Cite your sources
 Once you’ve collated the information you’ve wanted, it is necessary to cite the
sources from where your information came from
OTHER TIPS IN ONLINE SEARCHING

 As much as possible, do not add suffixes


 It is the best to enter the word in its base form in online search engines
 Use online search history
 If you can’t remember the date or time you searched for an information, you can
use the online search history of an online search engine.
 You can also use to search exact keywords or information through the websites
you’ve visited for a period of time.
Evaluating Websites

To help you evaluate the website’s credibility, here are the questions that you
need to answer:

1. What is the domain type of the website?

If it is a personal website, then you should further evaluate the website.


2. Who wrote the article?
Check if the author’s credentials or affiliations are listed so you can tell whether
or not the author is qualified to write the topic. Check also the publisher of the
article if it is a reliable publisher. Make sure that the author
provides e-mail or a contact address/phone number.

3. What is the purpose of the document and why was it produced?


It is also important to check the document’s purpose and why it was produced.
The document should provide accurate information and must be objective in
presenting it. Some websites produce documents for the purpose of motivating
users to buy products. If this is the case, information might be biased. However,
bias is not necessarily bad but you need to investigate the author or connections.
4. When was the document published and updated?
The document should be regularly updated. As to the freshness of the date, it
depends on the information needed. For some topics you want current
information. For others, you want information near the time it became known.
The links should also be up-to-date. There should be no dead links.
