BOWEN-LEBUS KNUCKLE JOINTS

The Bowen-Lebus Knuckle Joint is an indispensable tool when fishing for lost pipe or tools
in open hole. Its presence in the fishing string will assure against misruns, and allow retrieval
of lost fish where they would otherwise be impossible to reach. This is particularly true
where the upper end of the fish has fallen into a cavity or below a bridge, or other obstruction.

The Bowen-Lebus Knuckle Joint may be used to very good advantage in all fishing oper-
ations; either in cased holes that are greatly larger in diameter than the fish or in open holes.
In cases where the fish is in a cavity and cannot enter the fishing tool, the knuckling action
will add lateral reach to the fishing tool that can be gained in no other manner.

The Bowen-Lebus Knuckle Joint is composed of a Main Body, Pivot Body, Pivot, Top Sub,
Bottom Sub, Piston and Drive Pins as primary parts. A suitable Restriction Plug is a neces-
sary accessory tool for its operation, and an appropriate Restriction Plug Overshot, after the
fish has been caught, and the running string is to be pulled from the well. This prevents the
necessity for pulling a wet string. Maximum deflection is 7-1/2 degrees.

The Bowen-Lebus Knuckle Joint is located in the fishing string immediately above the
Overshot. The balance of the fishing string including Fishing Bumper Sub, Hydraulic Jar
and Safety Joint or Unlatching Joint is located above the Knuckle Joint.

Any normal jarring, bumping, pulling or rotating may be fully utilized during fishing with
the Bowen-Lebus Knuckle Joint.
