1. THE CLASSIC
• Traditional, “watch it all yourself” mode of operation
• Hire people but insist on tight, personal monitoring and
supervision
• Does all of the really critical jobs
• Perfectly legitimate way to run a business but has a trust
issue with subordinates
• Not applicable for complex businesses

2. THE COORDINATOR
• An alternate to the classic style
• Sometimes called a virtual corporation
• The leader does little more than organize the enterprise and
very that everything gets done.
• “Work is cheaper if produced in-house.”
• Can grow a multi-million dollar business without a single
employee

3. THE CRAFTSMAN
• Leaders who maximize their control over business by doing
everything themselves
• Limits the size of the business
• Biggest concern is the quality of the output
• Advantages – everything is done “right, minimized expenses,
simple life (operating without employees)
• Leader must do the tasks even those he dislikes

1. AUTOCRATIC OR AUTHORITARIAN
• Complete authority is in one person’s hand and nobody can question it.
• Also known as totalitarianism or dictatorship
• Forges an atmosphere or discipline in the organization
• Can cause dissatisfaction and a lack of “creative space” for the employees
• For such a manager, employees are just a replaceable resource and not the core
of the organization (employee satisfaction not important)
• Top down communication – orders are given by the higher hierarchical level to
the lower ones

2. PATERNALISTIC

• The manager is more like a parent than a boss.

• Employee satisfaction holds a higher priority.

• Though complete authority is in one person’s hand but care more about
the employees than the profit of the organization.

3. DEMOCRATIC
• Participative management style - the management allows the employees
to voice their opinions freely.
• Most company policies and decisions are made after taking the opinion of
the employees into consideration.
• A meeting is held with representatives from each hierarchical level, in
order to take a decision about company policy and rules and regulations.

4. CHAOTIC
• Popularized by Google Company
• This management style believes that employees perform to their full
potential when are given a free hand.
• Allows an employee to work on his idea, without the interference of the
management that helps in creating new innovations

5. LAISSEZ - FAIRE
• Very liberal management style
• The targets are communication to the employees, however, the employees
can go about meeting those targets in whichever way they want.
• More chaos in the delegation of authority as well as responsibility
• The manager may evade his/her duty very conveniently.
• Employees may take their work for granted.
