Odisha
Odisha (formerly Orissa), an eastern Indian state on the
Bay of Bengal, is known for its many ancient Hindu
temples. The capital, Bhubaneshwar, is home to hundreds
of temples notably the intricately- carved Mukteshvara.
The Lingaraj Temple complex, dating to the 11th century is
set around scared Bindusagar lake.
Flora And Fauna
 The flora and fauna of Odisha, a state in eastern India
is extremely diverse. Some of the trees which grow in
abundance in Odisha are bamboo, teak, rosewood, sal,
paisal,sanghvan and haldi. There 479 species of birds,
86 species of mammals, 19 species of amphibians and
110 species of reptiles present in Odisha.
Flora And Fauna
 The state is also an important habitat for the
endangered olive ridley turtles and Irrawaddy dolphins.
Koraput district of southern Odisha has been identified
by food and agriculture organisation (FAO) of UN as
Global Agricultural Heritage sites is among only other
three sites in the world. Others sites are in Peru, China
and Philippines.
Wild Sanctuaries and National Parks
 Simlipal is the largest national park in Odisha and
is also considered as one of the principal tiger
projects in India. The area is rich with dense
forests, striking meadows, starling waterfalls and
beautiful rivers. … Simlipal Reserve is home to
more than 1000 varieties of plants and a large
variety of wildlife.
Valleys, Mountains, Caves
 Valleys:- The rivers of Odisha and their tributaries
have cut deep and narrow valleys in this region.
The Odisha highlands are also known as the
Garjhat Hills. This region is well marked by a
number of watersheds. A number of river valleys of
varying width and floods plains dissect the Eastern
Ghats in this region.
Mountains
 Deomali Mountain Peak:- We begin with Deomali
Mountains range of Odisha and one of Eastern
Ghats, and forms a part of the Koraput district.
Besides being home to a rich biodiversity, these
rolling hills have dozens of scenery surrounding it
in shades of green.
Caves
 Udyagiri and Khandagiri Caves, formerly called
Kattaka Caves or Cattack Caves, are partly
artificial caves of archaeological, historical and
religious importance near the city of
Bhubaneshwar in Odisha, India. They have a
number of finely and ornately carved caves
built during the 1st century BCE.
Art and Craft
 Diverse, vibrant and utilitarian the art and craft of
Odisha range from – stone work, silver filigree,
wood craft, applique work, brass and bell metal
work, dhokra castings, horn work, pattachitra,
paper Mache, terracotta, tie & dye textile in cotton,
tassar and silk to name a few
Culture and Tradition
 In its long history, Odisha has had a continuous
tradition of dharmic religious especially Hinduism,
Buddhism and Jainism. Ashoka’s conquest of
Kalinga (India) made Buddhism a principal religion
in the state which led to the establishment of
numerous Stupas and Buddhist learning centres .
Religious place
 Most popular religious place in Odisha is
Jagannath temple. The Shree Jagannath is an
important Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, a
form of Vishnu, in Puri in the state of Odisha on the
eastern coast of India. The present temple was
rebuilt from the 10th century onwards, on the site of
