What is Problem…?

Effective Problem Statements
If a problem statement is to do its job it must be:
– A single sentence.
– Precise.
– Understandable to a person with no knowledge of the
problem area.
– Neutral.
– Based on the description of the problem.

Prevent It. Preventing a problem from
occurring or recurring.
Eliminate It. Once and for all is also an
ideal way of attacking a problem.
Reduce It. The magnitude of any
problem can be lessened by reducing its
size.
“5” why
Use why 5 times as one of the most
powerful problem solving strategies, and
problem solving exercises, in elementary
problem solving.
Companies such as Toyota use this
approach extensively, and with outstanding
results, for problem solving in the workplace.
Problem solving techniques is very
simple and involves asking the question 5
times.

Generation of ideas from the evaluation of
ideas
1. Record ideas.
2. Suspend judgment.
3. Freewheel.
4. Quantity.
5. Cross fertilise.
Brain writing
Write a problem statement.
Provide sheet or many piece of paper
Ask the participants to think creatively to address the
problem
Ask them to write the solution.
