HOMECOMING
AND THE LIGA
FILIPINA
 
SECOND HOMECOMING
 Rizal’s bold return to Manila in June 1892 was second homecoming.
 It marked his re- entry into hazardous campaign for reforms.
Arrival in manila with Sister- June 26, 1892, Rizal and his sister
Lucia arrived in Manila.
Visiting Friends in Central Luzon
 at 6:00 PM of the following day (June 27), Rizal boarded a train in
Tutuban station and visited his friends in Malolos, San Fernando, Tarlac,
and Bacoor.
 He was welcomed entertained at the homes of his friends. These
friends were his supporters the reform and he took opportunity to
greet them personally and discussed the problems and his plans.
 And Rizal returned by train to Manila on the next day, June 28, 5 o’
clock in the afternoon.
FOUNDING OF THE LIGA
FILIPINA
 On the evening of Sunday, July 3, 1892, Rizal
attended a meeting of the patriots at the home of
the Chinese- Filipino mestizo, Doroteo Ongjunco on
Ylaga Street.
These are the following who attended the meeting:
- Pedro Serrano
- Doming Franco
- Jose Ramos
- Ambrosio Salvador
- Bonifacio Arevalo
- Deodato Arellano
- Ambrosio Flores
- Agustin de Laro
- Moises Salvador
- Luis Villareal
CONSTITUTION OF LIGA FILIPINA
The aims of this constitution are the
following:
1.To unite the whole archipelago into one
compact and homogenous body.
2.Mutual protection in every want and
necessity.
3.Defense against all violence and
injustice.
4.Encouragement of education, agriculture
and commerce.
5.Study and application of reforms.
MOTTO: Unus Instar Omnium (one like all)
DUTIES OF THE LIGA FILIPINA MEMBERS ARE
AS FOLLOWS:
- Obey orders of the supreme council.
- To help in recruiting new members
- To keep in strictest secrecy the decisions of Liga
authorities.
- To have symbolic name which he cannot until he
becomes president of his council.
- To report to the fiscal anything that he may hear
which affects the Liga Filipina.
- To have well as befits a good Filipino
- And to help fellow members in all ways.
RIZAL ARRESTED NAD JAILED IN FORT
SANTIAGO
- On Wednesday, June 6, Rizal went to Malacañang
Palace to resume his series of interviews with the
governor general. During this interview Governador
General suddenly showed him some printed leaflets
which were allegedly found in Lucia’s pillow case.
Rizal denied having the leaflets in either his or
Lucia’s baggage.
- The following day, June 7, the Gaceta de Manila
published the story of Rizal’s arrest which produced
indignant commotion among the Filipino people,
particularly the members of Liga Filipina.
 
ARBITRARY DEPORTATION TO
DAPITAN
- The same issue of the Gaceta contained Governor
General decree deporting Rizal to one of the islands in
the south.
- The gubernatorial decree gave the reasons for Rizal’s
deportation, as follows:
1.Rizal had published books and articles that are showing
disloyalty to Spain and which are “frankly anti- catholic”.
2.There was found in one of the packages, a bundle of
handbills entitled Pobres Frailes which is against the
customs of the religions order.
3.His Novel EL FELIBUSTERISMO
Shortly after midnight of July 15, Rizal was brought under
heavy guard to the Dapitan on Sunday in the evening.
