demonstrates in the song, he talks about the same sex marriage and after
the music was made, he explained that the song also came out of his
own frustration of the hip-hop position on homosexuality.
Macklemore participated in creating a campaign to promote the
legalization of same sex marriage and he also has a famous frase ‘’Gay
rights are human rights, there is no separation’’
Here are some examples
Origin and the message of the song
The song Same love was produced in 2012
Same love stands place in Washington
The Washington referendum 74 was a referendum to approve or reject
the February 2012 Bill
It is about the discrimination of gay people..
Lyrics explanation

When he was a kid, he thought he was gay, because he knew how to

draw, and kept his room clean and tidy. These two actions are more
towards the feminine side. His uncle was gay and did these things,
there were more reasons to think like that.
Lyrics explanation

You can't encourage someone to suddenly change… Its biological, not

religious. Being gay is not man made, its not a decision someone has to
make. The verse also challenges the idea that religion can change who
you are which and is how some people think. Macklemore disagrees
with that saying.
Lyrics explanation

You can't change something that is unchangeable. Her partner gives her
love, the same way a hetero couple would give. You cannot classify love.
Love=Love
Lyrics explanation

Macklemore explains that the song also came out of his own frustration of
the hip-hop position on homosexuality.

The word gay gets used with a negative connotation and the word is
mostly used as an offensive comment, like “This song is gay“.
Lyrics explanation

People tend to turn a blind eye to gay rights issues. Doing nothing is just as
bad as being anti gay. Macklemore says we turn our backs to the causes of
gay rights and pretend its not happening, but it is.
Human rights involved and impact on the society

Human rights: The human rights associated with the song are the
legalization of the same sex marriage and the normalization of the idea
that society has on homosexual people.

Impact on the society: The biggest impact on society was the

way people visualize the idea of gay people and their perspective. This
song also contributes to the legalization of the Washington referendum
74.
