Echoes are caused by the reflection of sound waves from a surface back to the listener. For an echo to occur, sound must reflect off a large, hard surface in an open space without being absorbed by intervening objects. Echoes allow sound to be heard more clearly and are used by various species like bats for echolocation. They can also be used to determine distance, size, shape and velocity which has applications in fields like medicine, offshore industries and radar/sonar technology. Without echoes, life would be more difficult for many animals and certain medical technologies would not exist.

they? A presentation by Group 5 We will talk about:
- What are Echoes
- How do echoes happen
- What are the purpose of echoes in
our life Echo - a sound or series of sounds caused by the reflection of sound waves from a surface back to the listener. Sound can be reflected and absorbed. Echoes can be heard more clearly if there is nothing to absorb the sound. Sound can reflect from anything, but it gets reflected better if the surface is large and hard, like a wall. Sound will also get reflected better if you have a large, open area. Like an empty hallway, or a hill.
On the picture to the right, will
sound be reflected back to you? Answer is no, because there are many objects that can absorb the sound, like the couch, curtains, pillows, and carpets. Remove all of these, and only then can you hear an echo. Our brain retains a sound for 0.1 seconds. This means that the sound should take more than 0.1 seconds after starting from the source to get reflected back to us.
For example, In the picture on the left you
can see that the speaker produced a sound which bounced off the object, the sound that reflects back at the speaker is the echo. Some of the sound gets absorbed by the object too.
To hear a distinct echo, the reflecting
surface should be at a minimum distance of 17.2 m What is the importance of echoes?
Echoes are here so that sound can be heard more
clearly, without echoes, we would be hearing our sound over and over. Echoes can also be used to determine distance, size, shape and velocity. We also use it for Radar and Sonar, ECG, and echoes are also used by offshore industries to survey the seabed. Bats and dolphins use echolocation, Echolocation is used for tracking and communicating. In conclusion, Echoes are caused by the reflection of sound. Echoes are used by many species including animals and humans. It can be used for tracking, communicating, etc.
Without echoes, life would be hard. Many
animals (like bats) wont be able to survive. The Medical purposes of echoes wouldn’t be taken advantage of (ECG). Thank you for listening! Members: Catanghal Regilme Valenzuela Thank y Arriola ou for Liste Juntado ning Salcedo Reyes - Senko
