CONDITIONAL
SENTENCE
PURPOSE OF LEARNING

After learning Conditional


Sentences, the students are hoped to
be able to know difference type of
conditional sentences.
Conditional Sentence
 Conditional sentences are also known
as conditional Clauses or Conditional If
or If Clauses
 They are used to express that the action
in the main clause ( without if ) can
only take place if a certain condition
( in the clause with if ) is fulfilled.
Structure
A conditional sentence is composed 2 part :
IF CLAUSE + MAIN CLAUSE
Example :
If it rains tomorrow, we will not come
if clause main clause
Conditional Sentence type 1
 It is possible and also very likely that the
conditional will be fulfilled.
 Form : If + Simple Present, Will + Infinitive
( If + S +V1, S + will + V1 )
 Example :
1. If I find her address, I will send her an
invitation.
2. If I have the money, I will buy this car.
Conditional Sentence type 2
 It is possible but very unlikely that the
conditional will be fulfilled.
 Form : If + Simple Past, Would + Infinitive
( If + S +V2, S + would + V1 )
 Example :
1. If I found her address, I would send her an invitation
It means : I don’t find her address so I don’t send her an
invitation.
2. If I had money, I would buy this car.
It means : I don’t have money so I don’t buy this car.
Conditional Sentence type 2
 It is possible but very unlikely that the
conditional will be fulfilled.
 Form : If + Simple Past, Would + Infinitive
( If + S +V2, S + would + V1 )
 Example :
1. If I found her address, I would send her an invitation
It means : I don’t find her address so I don’t send her an
invitation.
2. If I had money, I would buy this car.
It means : I don’t have money so I don’t buy this car.
Conditional Sentence type 3
 It is possible but very unlikely that the conditional
will be fulfilled.
 Form : If +Past Participle, Would +Present Perfect
( If + S +had+V3, S + would + have +V3 )
 Example :
1. If I had found her address, I would have sent her an invitation
It means : I didn’t her address so I didn’t send her an
invitation.
2. If I had had money, I would have bought this car.
It means : I didn’t have money so I didn’t buy this car.
EXERCISE
Change the word in bracket into conditional sentence.
1. They will play out door if My mother ( permit ) them.
2. She would come late if Her mother ( not remind ) her.
3. If I ( be ) you, I would do it.
4. The view was wonderful. If I ( have ) a camera, I would have

taken some photographs.

EXERCISE
Change the word in bracket into conditional sentence.
1. They will play out door if My mother ( permit ) them.
They will play out door if My mother permits them
2. She would come late if Her mother ( not remind ) her.
She would come late if Her mother did not remind her.
It means : 1.She come on time because her mother reminded her.
2. She doesn’t come late because her mother reminded her.

3. If I ( be ) you, I would do it.


If I were you, I would do it
It means : I am not you so I do not do it.
4. The view was wonderful. If I ( have ) a camera, I would have taken some
photographs.
If I had had a camera, I would have taken some photographs.
It means : I didn’t have a camera so I didn’t take some photographs.
