Obligation

 The definition of an obligation is something that someone is required to do.


 .When you are obliged to do something, Or required to do something.
Necessity

 This is a requirement to do something which some from


external circumstances (for examples: rules and customs)
or the situation.
Modal verbs Used in expressing Obligation and Necessity

 Must
 Have got to
 Have to
 Need to
 Should
Expressing Obligation

 I must try it again.


 Do you have to go now ? yes, I do.
 I have to keep it.
 I have to come on time.
 I have to finish my work before this evening.
 I have got to learn English if I want to live in the USA.
 I must see the doctor soon because I don't feel well.
 It is obligatory that I stop when the traffic light turn red.
 It is necessary that I take a taxi. I'm late.
Positive Obligations

 1. S+ must verb (tanpa s/as).


Example: I must try it again.
She must try it again.
 2. S+ have/has to verb (tanpa s/es)
Example: You have to come on time.
She has to come on time.
 3. S+ need to verb (tanpa s/es)
Example :He needs to look at the map-
I need to visit the landslide victims
Negative Obligation

 1. S+ must not verb


Example : I must not try it again.
 2. S+ don't/doesn't have verb
Example: You don't have to go to school because it's a holiday.
She doesn't have to go to school because it's a holiday.
 3. S+ don't/doesn't need to verb
Example : You don't need to do it.
He doesn't need to do it.
Necessity

 1. Kata have to atau need to biasanya dipakai ketiko kebutuhan atau keperluan ada
karena tuntutan peraturan.
Example: You have to wear a uniform in the school.
I need to / have to be at school by 06:00 every day.

2. Kata must sering digunakan untuk public notices/signs.


 Example : Every visitor must report to a reception.
Guests must be signed in at the desk.
Example of Necessity

 Do I have to go to school today?


 Have I got to bring dictionary?
 Must I go to school today?
 Getting plenty of rest is a necessity.
 Without a car, living close to work is a necessity.
 All we took with us on our hiking trip were the bare necessities.
