PE 3

Sarah is presenting….. OBJECTIVES

By the end of the discussion
the student will able;
• To learn the basic skills in
swimming.
• To learn the other types of
floating
• To learn the different types
of kicking.
PE 3

Sarah is presenting…..  Swimming is the sport or

activity of propelling oneself
through water using the
limbs. Swimming can be both
an individual or team sport.
There are a number of
different Swimming styles
including breaststroke,
freestyle, backstroke and
butterfly.
PE 3

Sophia is presenting….. 1. WATER

• COMFORT
The most basic and essential
swimming skills is simply
becoming comfortable in the
water.
• Although humans are born with
innate water skills, many people
develop a fear of the water.
PE 3

Sophia is presenting….. • When unintentional submersion

occurs, panicking gets in the
way of logical thinking and
increases the likelihood of
drowning.
• To become more comfortable in
the water , spend time in a
shallow pool or wading in the
ocean. Never enter the water
alone, especially if you are not a
strong swimmer.
PE 3

Angelo is presenting….. 2. BREATH

• CONTROL
‌It is one of the basic skills
that a swimmer must
acquire.
• ‌Breath control begins with
simple exercises such as
drawing a breath,
submerging, blowing
bubbles and then
resurfacing for another
breath.
PE 3

Angelo is presenting….. BASIC BREATHING

TIPS
1) Wear swimming goggles
2) Don't hold your breath while
your head is underwater
3.) You should breathe in
quickly as soon as your mouth
is above the water surface.

Angelo is presenting…..

3. FLOATING‌
PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. 4. KICKING

- The kick provides
stability, improved body
position and propulsion
—all components
necessary for a more
efficient freestyle.

PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. KICK SETS OF

VERTICAL KICK
SUCCESS
-Vertical flutter and
dolphin kick sets with
hands held out of the
water encourage core
engagement and proper
form.
PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. LEG BURST

BREAKOUTS
 For backstroke, freestyle, and
butterfly, have swimmers push off
the wall and do intense
underwater dolphin kick in
streamlined position trying to
come as close to the 15-meter
mark as possible before executing
a full-sprint breakout stroke.

PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. SPRINT SWIM WITH

FINS
 Specify that even though the
arms are used, these are
primarily kick sets, and that the
goal is to train the legs to
tolerate high intensity.

PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. BACK

STREAMLINE
 Have swimmers kick on their backs to
focus on kick form, holding both
arms above their head in streamlined
position.

PE 3

Alliah is presenting….. BOARD WARS

Have swimmers pair up with

someone of similar ability and
share a single kickboard between
them as they face each other.

PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. 5. STROKES

• Stroke are the arms
movement used to pull
the body through the
water. Each stroke uses
different body
positioning, breathing
techniques and arms
movement.
PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. FRONT CRAWL

A style of swimming where
the swimmer is face-down in
the water and moves the
arms in alternating overhead
strokes. The flutter kick is a
simple and efficient kick used
in the front crawl.
PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. FRONT CRAWL

• Swimming stroke which is
executed on the side and in
which the arms are swept in
separate strokes towards the
feet and downward and the
legs do a scissors kick.
PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. BREAST STROKE

• Breaststroke is a swimming
style in which the swimmer is
on their chest and the torso
does not rotate. It is the most
popular recreational style due
to the swimmer’s head being
out of the water a large portion
of the time, and that it can be
swum comfortably at slow
speeds.
PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. BACK STROKE

• Backstroke or back crawl is one
of the four swimming styles
used in competitive events
regulated by FINA, and the only
one of these styles swum on
the back. This swimming style
has the advantage of easy
breathing, but the disadvantage
of swimmers not being able to
see where they are going.
PE 3

Vanisa is presenting….. BACK STROKE

• A swimming stroke in which the
arms are thrown forward
together out of the water while
the feet kick up and down.
PE 3

Rischel is presenting…..

COMMON
TYPES OF
KICKING
PE 3

Rischel is presenting….. FLUTTER KICK

• A swimming kick used in
crawl and backstroke in which
the legs are extended straight
back and alternately moved
up and down with a slight
bend in the knee on the
upward movement.
PE 3

Rischel is presenting….. PURPOSE

 Keep the legs in and up
the shadow for the upper
body and assisting body
rotation for arm strokes.

PE 3

Winston is presenting….. DOLPHIN KICK

• This is a type of kick where
the legs and feet remain
together and the hips are
used to create an undulating
motion in the lower half of the
body. The feet remain
pointed to help
create propulsion through the
water.

PE 3

Winston is presenting….. IS DOLPHIN KICK

THE FASTEST?
 We know that underwater dolphin
kicking is generally faster than on-
the-surface swimming. This only
applies to swimmers who actually
kick faster underwater compared
to swimming speed. There is a
point of diminishing returns where
the extended amount of time spent
underwater hurts real swimming
speed later in the race.
PE 3

Winston is presenting….. WHAT STROKE

DOES DOLPHIN
 What a swimmer does in this
drill isKICK USE?
breaststroke arms with a
dolphin kick, focusing on the
shooting motion of their arms to
the front. The point of this drill
is to use the dolphin kick to
bring your arms to the front
faster, shooting oneself forward
like a cobra.
PE 3

Winston is presenting….. WHAT ARE THE

TWO PURPOSE OF
DOLPHIN KICK?
 According to Vassallo, the
purpose of these dolphin
kicks was “to avoid waves
from bigger swimmers” and
to help stabilize his body
before starting his arm
strokes.

PE 3

Winston is presenting….. HOW LONG CAN

YOU DOLPHIN
KICK
 While the use of the dolphin
UNDERWATER?
kick is now limited to 15 meters,
that’s not a reason to avoid
using it. It’s a powerful tool for
getting a strong start after
diving or turning. Still, nobody
wants to be disqualified for
using it just a hair too much.

PE 3

Winston is presenting….. FROG KICK

• Lay on the floor or a workout
pad on your back, with your legs
together and extended and your
hands by your side or under
your butt. Lift your heels off the
floor and pull your legs toward
you as you bend your knees as
shown below. This is the up
position when your abs contract

PE 3

Ma. Joe is presenting…..

TYPES OF
FLOATING
PE 3

Ma. Joe is presenting….. BACK FLOATING

• A floating position on one's back with
arms extended out to the sides and face
upward.
• The purpose to be able to rollover to
their backs and float is a great way for
them to regain their strength and
continue swimming
• To float on your back, you have to
position your head, upper body, and
lower body correctly.
PE 3

Ma. Joe is presenting….. PREPARING TO

FLOAT ON YOUR
BACK
•Be comfortable in the water.
•Get a spotter
•Try using a flotation device
•Align your body with the
surface of the water.
PE 3

Ma. Joe is presenting….. ADJUSTING YOUR

HEAD
•Place your ears in the water
•Lift your chin
•Make sure the water line is
at mid-cheek
•Stay centered
PE 3

Ma. Joe is presenting….. ADJUSTING YOUR

BODY
•Position your arms correctly
•Arch your back slightly
•Lift your chest
•Lift your stomach
•Bend your knees
•Let your legs dangle down
•Kick your legs

PE 3

Mark is presenting….. DEADMAN

FLOAT/JELLYFISH
• A floating position, often used by
beginningFLOAT
swimmers,
• The a person or swimmers lies face
down in the water with arms
outstretched or extended forward and
legs extended backward.
PE 3

Mark is presenting….. HOW TO FLOAT IN

A DEADMAN
Push off in a streamlined position
FLOAT
with your face in the water. Glide
forward and open up into a big
letter X. Hold your breath for
about five seconds and then begin
to exhale slowly. As you exhale,
your body will begin to sink to the
bottom.
PE 3

Mark is presenting….. HOW TO FLOAT ON

YOUR BELLY
Bring your knees to your chest to bring your
feet up to recover and stand up. Bring your
knees to your chest. Place your feet down
on the ground to recover and stand up from
your dead man float. When floating, your
body should be right on the surface of the
water. Your lower back and your heels
should be right on top, as your hands are in
front of you reaching out into an open letter
X.
PE 3

Mark is presenting….. HOW TO FLOAT

USING YOUR BLLY
When floating, a good technique is to
hold your breath for a little time so you
can get a sense of buoyancy. As you
begin to run out of breath, you can
exhale your bubbles inside the water so
you can recover your body and stand up
properly after you float. That's how we
do the dead man and the jellyfish float.
PE 3

Raiza is presenting….. STARFISH FLOAT

• The starfish float is a basic swimming
technique. To do so, you float on your
back or your chest in a horizontal
position with the arms and legs
spread apart. Seen from above this
position reminds one of a starfish.
PE 3

Raiza is presenting….. MUSHROOM FLOAT

OR TUCKED FLOAT
• A tucked float (often called a
mushroom float) involves bringing
the knees to the chest, submerging
the face and hugging the legs. It is a
preliminary skill for somersaulting
and is also useful for developing
confidence as a tucked float position
feels wobbly and triggers a feeling of
tipping over.
PE 3

Daryl is presenting….. DROWN PROOFING

 It is a survival technique for
swimmers and none swimmers
 A method for surviving in water
disaster scenarios without sinking or
drowning
• It is where the subjects float in a relax
near-vertical postures, with the top of
the head just above the surface
PE 3

Daryl is presenting….. SEQUENCE IN

DROWN PROOFING
• The body should allow to float
vertically in the water, with the goad
submerged, the lungs filled with air
and the arms and legs relaxed, the
head being raised every ten second
PE 3

Daryl is presenting….. BASIC DROWN

PROOFING
PE 3

Daryl is presenting….. IMPORTANCE OF

DROWN PROOFING
 Drown proofing helps the new born
acclimate to the aquatic environment
 Helps the person to be more
comfortable in water
