What is multicultural classroom?

- Multicultural Classroom refers to any classroom -


where teachers incorporated the histories, texts,
values, beliefs, and perspectives of people from
different cultural backgrounds.

- Multicultural education values different student


cultures and prepares students to thrive in a diverse
world.
Goal

is to develop a curriculum that permits students to


appreciate and participate in a variety of movements
from global-local perspectives, thus allowing for
opportunities for people to co-exist in harmony even
when they come from different ethnic, social and
educational background.
Core

- multicultural education fosters equality, justice, and


equity, and it establishes the reality of philosophical
ideals in classroom environments.

Multicultural education is what schools implement


to establish equitable educational opportunities for
all their students. It is also an ongoing process of
helping students succeed in their academic and
personal lives.
Multicultural Classroom Cha
llenges
1.Language barrier
- The main thing that differs multicultural classrooms
from ordinary ones is a language barrier.

2.Domination of different learning styles


Despite the fact that students may differ in race,
religion or family background, these young people can
also absorb information in a variety of ways.
3.Presenting one topic from different perspectives
- You may say that every teacher should present a
topic from different prospective independent on the
pupils’ nationality in the classroom.

4. Poorly formed of cooperation and competition.


- As a result, students might not know how to behave
when a teacher is speaking, have no idea of group or
pair work, will not understand the rules of games
introduced.
5.Diversity of extracurricular activities
- As children from other cultures have appeared in the
classroom that differs from theirs it means that they
should also get accustomed to new traditions, a way
of life, relationships in this new society.

6. Miscommunication
-People from other cultures may be non-
confrontational, submissive or otherwise indirect.
Multicultural Classroom
Advantages
1.Multicultural Education exposures students to the
different cultural values and beliefs, and helps to create
understanding and acceptance of differences between
people.

2. It implants tolerance and acceptance in individuals.

3. Since, it promotes cultural relevance, anti-bias


classroom, challenges students to think critically without
jumping to categorizes, social skills and social action are
shaped resulting in civically engaged people.
4.The method encourages students to participate while
keeping their culture and values intact and, this makes
them feel a sense of inclusion.

5. By being culturally conscious teachers, without any


bias, can help students assimilate without having to
compromise their cultural identity.

6. It promotes celebrating a students culture and that


helps in keeping a sense of pride and confidence in the
students.
