About the lesson: The lesson is all about solving non-routine problems involving addition and subtraction of number
including money using appropriate problem-solving strategies and tools. The students need to understand the problem
by using the four steps which is the understand the problem, plan on how to solve the problem, perform the strategy and
lastly is check or verify if the answer is correct. We’re going to solve the sum and difference between Princess and
Raffy. This lesson aims to enhance pupils ‘skills in adding the sum, subtracting the difference to a problem. The students
need to understand the word problem then use more than one operation to get the correct answer.
Objectives:
a. solve those non-routine problems involving addition and subtraction of decimal numbers;
b. solve non-routine problems including money using problem solving strategies and tools.
Introduction Procedure
This time we will define first what is a non-routine problem? It is any complex problem that requires some
degree of creativity or originality to solve. Non-routine problems typically do not have an immediately
apparent strategy for solving them. Often times, these problems can be solved in multiple ways. Therefore, in
non-routine problems we will be using more than one operation or process.
