Read and analyze the problem.
Aling Marina is sick because of flu so she cannot prepare a meal for the family.
Mang Lando was too tired from the farm that he can’t able to cook either. Dina their
obedient and industrious daughter decided to cook a soupy meal. She went to the
market and bought chicken thigh for tinola. If each thigh weigh 0.25 kg, how much
does the 3 thigh of chicken weigh?
A. The problem can be solved through continuous addition. Let’s look at the following
picture.
Each thigh weigh 0.25 kg. Adding the three thigh we have, 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 0.75
kg.
Since multiplication is a repeated addition, we can rewrite it as multiplication
equation: 0.25 x 3 = 0.75 kg Thus, the three thigh weigh 0.75 kg.
The number line shows three jumps that represent the 3 chicken thigh that was
bought. The last arrow landed on 0.75 and tells that the mass of the 3 chicken thigh is
0.75 kilogram.

To find the product follow these steps
- line up the numbers on the right,
- multiply each digit in the top number by each digit in the bottom
number (like whole numbers),
- add the partial products and
- mark off decimal places equal to the sum of the decimal places in
the numbers being multiplied.

GENERALIZATION:
Multiplying with Two Decimal Place by a 2-Digit Number
To multiply:
Set up and multiply the numbers as you do with whole numbers.
Count the total number of decimal places in both of the factors.
Place the decimal point in the product so that the number of decimal places in the
product is the sum of the decimal places in the factors.
Keep all zeros in the product when you place the decimal point. You can drop the
zeros on the right once the decimal point has been placed in the product.
If the number of decimal places is greater than the number of digits in the product,
you can insert zeros in front of the product.
