 In Math, every digit in a number has a place value.


Place value can be defined as the value represented
by a digit in a number on the basis of its position in
the number. Place Value is important because it
helps you understand the meaning of a number and
the order of numbers as well. It also helps in
reading and writing large numbers.
What is it?
 There are 6 place value names in a six-digit
number. These are :
 Ones
 Tens
 Hundreds
 Thousands
 Ten Thousands
 Hundred Thousands.
Here’s an example:
Let us identify the place value of number 654 321. It is easy
to identify the place value using a place value chart.
In 654, 321
 6 is in the hundred thousand
place,
 5 is in the ten thousands,
 4 is in the thousands,
 3 is in the hundreds,
 2 in the tens
 1 is in the ones place
