This document provides an introduction and objectives for a project designing a microstrip patch antenna. The project aims to design a patch antenna with a wider bandwidth but a smaller size. Currently, microstrip patch antennas have a limitation of lower bandwidth, which affects wireless communication applications. The objectives are to design the microstrip patch antenna and improve its bandwidth while reducing its size. The problem statement notes that bandwidth can be increased by using techniques like an air gap, inserting slots, or cutting the ground plane in half. The length of the patch also plays an important role in the antenna's bandwidth.

An antenna is a device that transmits and/or receives electromagnetic waves. Most antennas are resonant devices, which operate efficiently over a relatively narrow frequency band. An antenna must be tuned to the same frequency band that the radio system to which it is connected operates in, otherwise reception and/or transmission will be impaired. The receiving antenna as a part in the system is responsible of turning the electromagnetic waves into its original form (electrical signal in wire). • The Microstrip Patch Antenna is a single-layer design which consists generally of four parts (patch, ground plane, substrate, and the feeding part). Patch antenna can be classified as single – element resonant antenna. Once the frequency is given, everything (such as radiation pattern input impedance, etc.) is fixed. Objectives • The objective of the project is: I. To design microstrip patch antenna II. to get more bandwidth patch antenna with low size Problem statement • The main limitation of microstrip patch antenna is lower bandwidth , which effect wireless communication applications . • The bandwidth can be improve by increasing height and increasing of surface of waves by using transmission line model . • Therefore to aviod this problem we will use techniques such as Use of air gab Insetring of slots Cutting ground half Length of patch play important role in bandwidth of antenna we will use with minimum possible size with maximum possible efficiency .
