INTRODUCTION
For thousands of years, people have been using wind energy to do
work from traveling around the world on sailboats to milling grain
using windmills. Today, wind is becoming more common as a
renewable energy source through the use of wind turbines.
WHAT IS WIND POWER?
Wind power is the energy obtained from the wind. It is one of the oldest
energy sources exploited by humans and today is the most established
and efficient renewable energy source.
WHAT IS A WIND FARM?
The wind farm is a power plant where the production of electrical
energy is obtained from the force of the wind, by means of wind
turbines that take advantage of the air currents.
HOW DO WIND TURBINES WORK?
Wind turbines work on a simple principle: instead of using electricity
to make wind like a fan wind turbines use wind to make electricity.
Wind turns the propeller-like blades of a turbine around a rotor,
which spins a generator, which creates electricity.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGE
ADVANTAGES:

1. Clean energy
Wind energy is one of the cleanest energy
sources. Generating energy using wind
turbines does not
emit any greenhouse gases.
2. Renewable
Wind energy is a renewable energy resource, meaning that the source of
energy is not depleted when it is used. So, as we use wind energy we don’t
decrease the amount of wind available.
3. Low-cost energy
Although wind turbines have high upfront costs, the energy they produce is
cheap. This is for a few reasons, one being that you don’t have to pay for
any fuel for the turbines. Wind is free!
DISADVANTAGES

1. Impredectable
Maybe the biggest disadvantage to
wind energy is that it cannot be
produced consistently. Energy will
only be produced when the wind blows.
2. Threat to wildlife
Wind energy does not cause environment problems through greenhouse gas
emissions, however, turbines can have an impact on wildlife.
3. Noise
Noise is a problem for some people that live in the proximity of wind
turbines. The generator within the turbine makes a mechanical hum, while
the blades create a “whooshing” sound as they move through the air.
WIND POWER IN BOLIVIA

Wind energy started with great auguries in

2014 but after Qollpana phase I and II it has
remained stagnant at 27 MW of installed
power until 2019. By 2020 when the 3 wind
power plants under construction in Santa
Cruz are completed there will be a jump of
108 MW and an installed power of 135 MW
will be reached. Meanwhile, in operation,
there are only 27 MW of wind power
capacity.
THREE NEW WIND FARMS IN BOLIVIA
INCREASE IN WIND ENERGY PER YEAR (MW)
The construction of the parks in San Julián (40
MW), Warnes (14 MW) and El Dorado (54 MW)
wind farms will considerably accelerate the
development of wind energy generation in Bolivia,
as their capacity will quadruple that already
installed in the country, and will serve to
approach the 74% wind power generation that
the Bolivian government aims to achieve by 2025.
CONCLUSIONS
In conclusion, we can say that the use of wind energy in different parts of
the world is being used as an energy alternative, since this energy is one of
the least polluting, does not damage the ozone layer, does not destroy the soil
and does not pollute the air.
