INTRODUCTION 01

Wind power is a clean and renewable energy source that

harnesses the natural movement of the wind to generate
electricity.
Its history dates back centuries, starting with ancient
windmills and evolving into the modern wind turbines we
see today.
Wind power is an example of eco-friendly source of energy.
A global effort to combat climate change and build a cleaner
energy landscape for future generations.
THE WIND
- Wind is the natural movement of air driven by the sun's
01

uneven heating of the Earth's atmosphere.

- Solar energy creates variations in temperature and pressure,
leading to the horizontal movement of air from high to low-
pressure areas.
-Wind patterns are influenced by factors such as the Earth's
rotation, topography, and bodies of water.
- Wind plays a key role in weather patterns, atmospheric
circulation, and the formation of natural phenomena like
storms.
- Understanding wind behavior is crucial for applications
ranging from weather forecasting to renewable energy
production.
WIND POWER CLASSIFICATION

ONSHORE
Onshore wind power involves the placement of wind farms on land, where rows of
wind turbines are strategically installed to harness wind energy.
Onshore wind farms are often chosen for their accessibility, ease of maintenance, and
comparatively lower installation costs.

OFFSHORE
Offshore wind power refers to the generation of electricity from wind turbines located
in bodies of water, usually the ocean. This form of renewable energy takes advantage
of higher and more consistent wind speeds offshore to produce electricity through
wind turbines mounted on structures anchored to the seabed.

VERTICAL AXIS WIND TURBINES

VAWTs are a type of wind turbine where the blades spin around a
vertical axis, resembling an eggbeater.
Unlike traditional horizontal axis turbines, VAWTs can capture wind

from any direction, making them versatile for areas with changing
wind patterns.
They're known for being compact and often require less
maintenance, making them suitable for various applications,
including small-scale setups.

PROS OF THE WIND POWER 08

Renewable Resource

Wind is a renewable resource, meaning it won't deplete over

time, providing a constant and sustainable energy source.

Clean and Environmentally Friendly

Wind power generation produces minimal greenhouse gas

emissions, contributing to cleaner air and reduced environmental
impact compared to fossil fuel-based energy sources.
CONS OF THE WIND POWER 08

Intermittency and Variability:

Wind power generation is dependent on wind speed, which can be intermittent and variable.
The inconsistency of wind patterns means that wind turbines may not always generate
electricity, requiring backup power sources or energy storage solutions to ensure a stable and
reliable energy supply.

Land Use and Environmental Impact:

While wind farms use less land than traditional power plants, they still require
substantial space, which can impact local ecosystems and wildlife habitats. The
construction and operation of wind turbines can also lead to soil erosion and
disruption of local flora and fauna, potentially affecting biodiversity.
