A. Title : Zeolite Synthesis from rice husk ash
B. Objective : synthesized zeolites from RHA
C. Literature Review :
Zeolites are three-dimensional silica-alumina crystals, formed from tetrahedral alumina
and silica with cavities inside that contain metal ions, usually alkaline or alkaline soil and free-
moving water molecules.
One of the zeolite elements is silica. The quality of an element depends largely on its
purity. Rice husk ash has a very high silica content. Silica levels in rice husk ash range from
85–97%. Zeolite can be found naturally (natural zeolite) and can also be made with certain
techniques (synthetic zeolite). Synthetic zeolites have different characteristics to natural
zeolites. If the characteristics of natural zeolite depend on the geological and geographical
conditions of nature, then the characteristics of synthetic zeolite are only influenced by
synthesis techniques, manufacturing process conditions and composition of raw materials .

- Weighing the sample RHA as much as 22,5 gr for 3 comparisons

- Weighing KOH with different gr compositions. Each much as 5 gr: 4.375:

E. Discussion

Zeolite is a rock that has a unique and porous crystal structure with an element the dominant are aluminate and silicate. So
zeolite is widely used in various fields, including absorbers, waste handling, animal feed, catalysts, etc. zeolites are also widely
used as materials. Research abroad or in Indonesia.
In the experiment, rice husk ash wash was used for zeolite synthesis in the sample. The rice husk ash used was taken from
health road no.24 north Toto, tilongkabila, bone bolango regency, Gorontalo 96129,Indonesia.

This zeolite synthesis experiment used samples of rice husk ash because rice husks are the largest source of silica. This
experiment used rice husk ash weighing 22,5 grams for 3 comparisons to 7,5 grams for each comparison.
Figure 2 The process of weighing rice husk ash

Then, we weighed Al2(SO4)3 made in three comparisons where of Al2(SO4)3 is 3,75 grams to rated of 1,25 grams
each, after weighing, we dissolve Al2(SO4)3 using 10 ml of water.

Figure 3 The process of weighing Al2(SO4)3

Then we weighed KOH made in three comparisons 10 grams to 5 grams, the second-rated of 8,78 grams to 4,375
grams, and the third-rated of 7,5 grams to 3,75 grams. After weighing, we dissolve KOH using 10 ml of water.
Figure 4 The process of weighing KOH

Next, mix rice husk ash with a solution Al 2(SO4)3 and KOH with each comparison. The result of this treatment is
an insoluble solution and deposits are formed from rice husk ash. This solution is called a heterogeneous solution.

Figure 5 Mixing 3 materials into heterogeneous solution

The reaction that occurs between Al2(SO4)3 and rice husk
ash is:
Al2(SO4)3 + 3SiO2 Al2(SiO3)3 +
3SO3
The reaction between KOH and rice husk ash is:
2KOH + SiO2 K2SiO3 +H2O
The reaction that occurs between KOH, Al2(SO4)3, and rice husk ash is:

K2SiO3 + Al2(SO4)3 K2SO4 + Al2(SO3)3

Mixing with Al2(SO4)3 with KOH aims to dissolve various impurities found in rice husk ash, so it can increase the
percentage of silica elements in it. Material unwanted materials are experiencing the rate of the sill.

Heating the solution over the water handler while stirring aims to make the solution quickly dissolve and thicken.
The result of this treatment is that the solution turns viscous or gel-shaped. This heating is done by stirring so that the
clumping process occurs evenly.

After thickening, then dry in the oven at 65-69oC for 1 hour until the sample dries until hard textured and pitch black.

F. Conclusion
Based on experimental results and observation it can be said that zeolite can be synthesized in rice husk ash
using KOH as base and Al2(SO4)3 as an acid. It is indicated by the resulting form of zeolite. Microware synthesis
that runs at temperatures can produce zeolite crystal, synthesis after 60 minutes
