Fuel Properties
FUEL TYPES ADVANTAGES DISADVANTAGES
• Less storage area required • Atomization required for
Liquid • Easy transportation combustion (via spraying)

• Easy feed and mix • High cost of production

Gaseous • Relatively clean combustion • Large storage area required

Non-renewable • Readily available currently • Increasing fuel cost

(Fossil) • High carbon emission

• Can be reproduced in short term • High cost of production

Renewable • Reduce lifecycle petroleum use
Fuel Properties

• Fuels extracted from crude oil usually have HIGHER heat content than
fuels extracted from agriculture products or wastes, and chemical process.
 Exceptions: CNG and LNG

• Gasoline is used as reference base.

Fuel Gasoline
• Propane and alcohol fuels have much lower energy as compared with
gasoline.
Some More for NG?

LNG CNG LPG
• Frozen to turn into liquid • Pressurized and compressed • Used in industrial, cooking
form gas and heating
• Less storage space • Low production cost • Release more CO2 than
CNG
• Used for long-haul • Used for automobiles
transportation • 33% cleaner than gasoline
• 66% cleaner than gasoline
