Lens:-
Deff.:-A place of glass or other transparent with curved
sides for concentrating or dispersing light ray
used singly (as in a magnifying glass) or with
other lens (as in a telescope)

Lens formula:-

lens
Types of lens:-

Convex lens Concave lens

1.Concave lens :-
 A concave lens or conversing lens has a reflecting
surface that is a recessed
 Concave lens is thinner at the middle end thicker at
the edges
 Power of a concave lens is negative

Use of Concave lens :-

 Makeup , shaving , hotel, school, car, dentist etc.
2.Convex lens :-
 A convex lens often is called a conversing lens
because when surrounded by material with a lower
index of refraction ,it refracts parallel light rays so
that the rays meet at a point.
 Nature of image= virtual ,Diminished
 Power of convex lens is positive

Use of Convex lens :-

 Rear view in vehicle mirror, refracted in street
lamp ,for large filed view, etc.
Terminology associated with the lens :-

 The principle axis is an imaginary line drawn through the optical

center perpendicular to both surfaces
 The axis of symmetry is an imaginary vertical line drawn through the
optical center of a lense

Sign convention :-
