What is a FESTIVAL DANCE?
Festival dances are cultural dances performed to the strong beats of percussion
instruments by a community of people sharing the same culture usually done in
honor of a Patron saint or as a thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest. Festival dances
may be religious or secular in nature.

What is the purpose of FESTIVALS?

Festivals are an expressive way to celebrate glorious heritage, culture and traditions.
They are meant to rejoice special moments and emotions in our lives with our loved
ones. They play an important role to add structure to our social lives, and connect us
with our families and backgrounds.
Two Types of Festival Dance
A Religious Festival is a time of special importance marked by adherents to that
religion. Religious festivals are commonly celebrated on recurring cycles in a
calendar year or lunar calendar.

A Secular Festival is held purposely as a public honoring of outstanding persons,

or to commemorate important historical or cultural events, or to re-create
cherished folkways. The origin of communal celebration is a matter of
assumption among scholars.
