 A festival or commonly known as a
“Fiesta” is part of the Filipino culture.
Each city or province has a local fiesta.
Being a very religious centered country,
a fiesta is commonly about the
celebration of a city or province’s patron
saint or of harvest.

chance to exhibit their rich culture and pay
homage to the history and patron saints.
They are vibrant, big, and celebrated with
a lot of pomp and show. No wonder, each
province has its own Filipino Fiesta that
they are very proud of.

Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival

 Baguio’s Panagbenga Festival

 Panagbenga is an annual flower festival celebrated every

February which takes place in Baguio City, Philippines.
The term “Panagbenga” comes from a Kankanaey term
meaning “season of blooming”—an apt name for a festival
that highlights Baguio’s flowers! Celebrations last all
month long, but the anticipated float parade and street
dancing happen during the last week of the festival.
 This festival reflects the history, traditions and values of
Baguio and the Cordilleras.

Marinduque’s Moriones Festival

 Marinduque’s Moriones Festival

 Marinduque’s Moriones Festival depicts the tale of Longinus, the

Roman soldier who pierced Jesus’ side during the crucifixion. The blood
of Jesus fell on Longinus’ blind eye, thus converting him to Christianity.
The masked soldiers or the Moriones look for Longinus throughout the
week-long festival, all the while performing pranks and being playful
with the townsfolk.
 Marinduque's Moriones festival is one of the most colorful festivals in
the country. The participants use morion masks to depict the Roman
soldiers and Syrian mercenaries within the story of the Passion of the
Christ.

Bohol’s Sandugo Festival

 Bohol’s Sandugo Festival

 The Sandugo Festival is an annual historical celebration that

takes place every year in Tagbilaran City on the island
of Bohol in the Philippines. This festival commemorates the
Treaty of Friendship between Datu Sikatuna, a chieftain in
Bohol, and Spanish conquistador Miguel López de Legazpi.
 Blood Compact or Sandugo occurred on March 16, 1565 when
Legaspi and Sikatuna entered into a native ritual of both
shedding blood (“dugo” in the Visayan dialect) into a cup and
then drinking the contents thereof. The Sandugo Festival is held
every July.

Bacolod’s MassKara Festival

 Bacolod’s MassKara Festival
 1980 was a difficult year for Bacolod due to the sugar crisis
and the tragedy of MV Don Juan. To bring back hope and
happiness to the people, the mayor introduced the MassKara
festival. Ever since then, Bacolod came to be known as the
“City of Smiles”.
 The festival’s popularity grew, so now tourists from all over
come and participate in the festivities. Highlights of the
festival include fashion shows, concerts, pageants, trade fairs,
and street dance competitions.

Davao’s Kadayawan Festival

 Davao’s Kadayawan Festival

 Its “Kadayawan” name derives from the friendly Dabawenyo

greeting “Madayaw”, meaning good, valuable, superior or
beautiful. Hence, the Kadayawan Festival in Tagalog means
“pasasalamat at pagpapahalaga”.
 The Kadayawan Festival is a tribute to life, harvest, health, and all
things good. It is a time of thanksgiving for the people of Davao.
Being one of the most awaited festivals in Mindanao, the
Kadayawan festival has a lot to offer: talent shows, games, trade
fairs, and floral floats. Like every Filipino fiesta, expect lots of bright
costumes and dancing!

Zamboanga’s Hermosa Festival

 Zamboanga’s Hermosa Festival
 The Zamboanga Hermosa Festival or Fiesta Pilar is an annual
celebration in honor of the patroness of the City of Zamboanga
—Our Lady of the Pillar. The Zamboangueños are known for
their fervent devotion to Our Lady of the Pillar or better known
to them as “Nuestra Señora La Virgen del Pilar”.
 This is brought about by the miracles believed to have been
performed by Our Lady. Her image is the main piece of the Real
Fuerza de Señora Virgen del Pilar, a fort-turned-shrine in Her
honor. People gather to pay homage especially on her feast day
October 12.
