 A team sport played by two (2) teams,
each consisting of Eleven (11) Players,
one whom is the goalkeeper.
 The objective of the game is to put the
ball inside of the goal located at the ends
of the playing field, between the goalpost
and under the cross bar. Field players
can use any part of the body except the
hands in doing so. Only the Goalkeeper
can use both hands to hold the ball
during the game.
 The team who score the most point wins
the game.

FORERUNNERS
 2000 BC (Han Dynasty, China) – “Tsu
chu” – involved kicking a stuffed ball made
of animal skin and was usually played
during festivals and holiday celebrations.
 500 – 600 years later (Japan) – “Kemari”
– passing the ball to each other, in
relatively small space, trying not to touch
the ground.
 600 BC (Greeks) “Episkyres’ and
(Romans) “Harpustum” – both were ball
carrying games played between rival
villages.
Modern Soccer
 1863 (London) – Football Association was founded.
Representatives of eleven clubs who favored the
kicking form of the game, agreed to restrict play entirely
to kicking and heading, in order to differentiate between
two forms of football, one was called “rugby” and the
other “association football”. Association football was
later shorted to “assoc” and eventually to “soccer”.
 1870 (Germany) Association rules were first initiated
which includes restricting the number of players on the
field to eleven per team.
 1904 (Paris) delegates from France. Belgium,
Denmark, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the
Netherlands formed the Federation Internationale de
Football Association (FIFA).
 1930 (Uruguay) The first FIFA World Cup was held.
The host country was declared the winner.
 1898 – Soccer was brought by British
merchants to the Philippines via Hong
Kong.
 Early 1900’s – Paulino Alcantara
was the first Filipino professional
football player who played with the
FC Barcelona of Spain.
 1928 - Philippine Football
Association was formed in Jaro,
Iloilo.
 1954 – The Asian Football
Confederation (AFC) was organized
in Manila, in which the Philippines
were the founding members.
 1982 – Philippine Football
SOCCER IN THE Federation (PFF) was formed.

Law 9 – The Ball In and Out of Play
 The ball is out of play when;

 It wholly crossed the goal line or touch line, whether on


the ground or in the air.
 Play has been stopped by the referee
 
 The ball is considered in play at all times including
when;
 It rebound from the goal post, cross bar or corner flag
post and remains inside the field of play.
 It rebound from either the referee or an assistant
referee when they are inside the field of play.  

Law 10 – Method of Scoring


 A goal is scored when the whole of the ball passes over
the goal line, between the goal post and under the
cross bar.
Law 11 - Offside
 A player is an offside position if he is nearer to
his opponent’s goal line than both the ball and
the second last opponent.
 It is not an offense in itself to be in an offside
position.
 A player will be penalized if in the opinion of the
referee he is;
 Interfering with play.
 Interfering with an opponent.
 Gaining an advantage by being in that position.
 

 
Law 12- Fouls and Misconduct
 Warning (yellow card)

 Unsporting behavior.

 Dissent by words or action.

 Persistently infringes the Laws of the Game.

 Delay the start and restart of play.

 Fails to respect the required distance.

 Enters or re-enters the field of play without the referee’s permission.

 Deliberately leaves the field of play without referee’s permission.

 Sending-off (red card)

 Serious foul play

 Violent conduct

 Spit an opponent or any other person

 Denies an obvious scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball.

 Denies an obvious goal scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards


the goal.
 Uses offensive, insulting or abusive languages and / or gesture.
 Receive a second caution on the same match.
Law 13 – Free Kicks
 Direct – a score can be scored directly
from a direct free kick.
 Indirect – a score cannot be scored
directly from an indirect kick.
  
Law 14 – The Penalty Kick
 Awarded against a team that commits a
foul inside its own penalty area.
 
Law 15 – Throw-in
 A goal cannot be scored directly from a
throw-in.
Law 16 – The Goal Kick
 Awarded when the whole of the ball, having last
touched by player of the attacking team, passes
over the goal line, either on the ground or in the
air.
 A goal may be scored directly from a goal kick, but
only against the opposing team.
 
Law 17 – The Corner Kick
 Awarded when the whole of the ball, having last
touch by the player of the defending team, passes
over the goal line, either on the ground or in the
air.
 A goal may be scored directly from a corner kick,
but only against the opposing team.
