Introduction
The Source of energy on this planet are limited, they
will exhaust one day.

Especially if we take petroleum sources they are

decreasing at a fast pace and other renewable
sources like hydropower, solar energy have also their
limitations. Burning of fossil fuels creates noxious
gases which are the main cause of pollution and
various diseases.

So to overcome this scenario we came up to power

an engine by acetylene which is an easily obtainable
non-petroleum source of energy.
Objective:-
Providing a fuel comprising acetylene as primary
fuel for an internal combustion engine (ICE).

The principle objective of doing this project is to

understand the air quality of megacities of India
and provide the world with a much cleaner and
inexpensive fuel for transportation i.e acetylene.
It has a very wide flammability range and
minimum ignition energy required for ignition.
Acetylene:-
It is obtained from the hydrolysis of calcium
carbide
Acetylene(C₂H₂) is a hydrocarbon and the simplest
alkyne
CaC₂ + 2H₂O Ca(OH)₂ + C₂H₂ Ethyne
or Acetylene
As acetylene is colorless gas and is highly
combustible with high flame speed and fast
energy release, it can be used as alternative fuel
in IC engines. It has a very wide flammability
range and minimum ignition energy required for
ignition.

Internal combustion engine:-
An engine or motor is a machine designed to
convertone form of energy into mechanical
energy.
An internal combustion engine (ICE) is a heat
engine where the combustion of a fuel occurs with
an oxidizer (usually air) in a combustion chamber

This replaced the external combustion engine for

applications where weight or size of the engine is
important.
Acetylene Gas Production by Calcium Carbide

It was first prepared by the hydrolysis of calcium

carbide, a reaction discovered by Friedrich Wohler in
1862.
CaC2 + 2H2O → Ca(OH)2 + C2H2

Calcium carbide is manufactured from lime and coke

in 60:40 ratios and Calcium carbide production
requires extremely high temperatures, ~20000C, in
an electric arc furnace.

This paper include the fact that acetylene can

be a good fuel for the country like Nepal
where calcium carbonate are abundant in
nature as it is already discussed above.

1 Mr. P. Shresth 2012 Despite of being, good fuel for IC engine,
there are some of the control measures and

better fuel due Its non-poluting nature &
more economic
