SUMMARY:
This case is about a research conducted in an organization about internal audits.
Many clients have ben shocked after finding discrimination and harassment to
black and indigenous people. The main reason for this case is prejudice.
Here, an example is given of a lady(Humera), a devout muslim wearing a hijab.
Others staff have highly valued the skills of her but the manager (Jackie) have
negative impacts toward her and discriminates her in every ideas and in various
places. After not being judged by the manager in a positive way, she has to leave
the company. After this , the company loss the valuable employee and has to find
the new employee and go through long procees.
 WHAT SHORTCUTS DO PEOPLE FREQUENTLY USE IN
MAKING JUDGMENTS ABOUT OTHERS?

 Prejudice: negative attitude towards an individual based

on the individual membership of a social group. It can be
understood as a baseless.
 Stereotyping: It is a process of judging others according
to their groups. For instance, all blacks are great
basketball players (positive stereotyping).
Halo effect : IT is drawing a general impression of the
individual based on a single characteristics. For
instance, if someone good at one dimension , s/he will
be good at another.
 Primacy effect: IT is the tendency for the first item
presented in a series to be remembered easily. For
instance, if you hear long list of words you mostly
like to remember the first than others.
 WHAT IS PREJUDICE? WHAT WOULD BE YOUR SUGGESTION TO REDUCE SUCH PREJUDICE IN MULTICULTURAL WORK PLACE ?

Prejudice is incorrect attitude towards an individual based on

individual membership in a particular group. It is also known as
assumption or an opinion.
We can reduce such prejudice in certain ways:
 Passing law and regulations that require fair and unequal
treatment for all groups of people.
 Making people aware of the inconsistence in their own
beliefs.
 Valuating their own skills.
 Consistence contact between employee and managers.
 Giving opportunities in required field.
Do you think conformation bias is strong cognitive phenomenon, to
pay more attention to stereotype behavior of Jackie in above case ?
how / explain.

Yes, I think conformation bias is strongly cognitive phenomenon to pay more

attention to stereotype behavior of jackie because conformation bias is
tendency to interpret new evidence as confirmation of ones existing beliefs
and theories. It favour the information that strength beliefs and values of the
employee. In the above case manager have not properly evaluate the skills
and valued the employee of other races. By conformation it helps to take
correct decision in the organization and evaluating others by their skills and
valued them but should not take decisions according to races, color etc. If the
members or employee are judged on the basis of work, the opportunities
would be flourished to show skills and knowledge employee have.
Examine the consequences of shortcuts judging and
prejudice in the performance of an organization?

The following consequences of shortcuts judging and prejudice in

performances in an organization are :
 Difficult in achieving business goals.
 Loss of valued employees.
 Organization could go through costly process of hiring new
employee .
 Demotivate other employees in the working field.
