Report
Information reports are a type of text
that describes a thing generally based on
facts. The texts use a formal tone and
the information is presented objectively.
Therefore, the texts are written in
third person. Also, personal opinions are
minimized in informational reports.
 Informational reports consist of:

General classification
introduction that covers the
definition or classification and
may include a short
description.
2.
Description
series of paragraphs that
elaborates the facts about the
subject, regarding its parts and
their function as well as the use
of the subject and sometimes
its interesting features.

Activity 3. Read the following paragraphs. Rearrange them into a good description of gadgets.

Despite its small size, it offers faster transfer rate than an optical disk, even a
floppy disk. The data stored is also rewritable. The capacity of a flash drive
varies, but the most frequently sold ones are flash drive with a capacity ranging
from 8GB to 256GB. As a removable memory device, it is handy and durable
because it is not damaged owing to surface scratches or electromagnetic
interference.

The flash drive is a small removable memory device to store data from a
computer to another computer or device.

The flash drive is small because it weighs less than 30 gram. It has three main
parts, namely a USB connector, a small printed circuit board, and a case. The
USB connector connects flash drive to an onboard memory on a circuit board.
Meanwhile, the circuit board is protected by a plastic or metal casing.

The Simple Present Tense

Reports often use the simple present tense because they often
talk about general truth.

Relating Verbs

In reports, relating verbs are often used to link features. Some

of relating verbs used in the simple present tense are is, am,
was, were, be, being, been, are, has, have, had appear(s), and
seem(s).
Action Verbs

To describe something generally, action verbs are used to tell what

the subject does. Hence, these verbs express actions. Some of action
verbs are limit, give, replace, receive, listen, watch, place, take,
transfer, access, send, and find.
The Passive Voice
Example: The circuit board is protected by a plastic or metal casing.

Active Voice
(With Being Verbs)
Positive: Subject + be + complement.
Negative: Subject + be + not + complement.
Interrogative: be + subject + complement?

(With Being Verbs and Action Verbs)

Positive: Subject + verb 1 (+s/es) + object.
Negative: Subject + do/does + not + verb 1 + object.
Interrogative: Do/does + subject + verb 1 + object?
Passive Voice (Action Verbs)
Positive: Subject + be + verb 3 + (by + object).
Negative: Subject + be + not + verb 3 + (by + object).
Interrogative: Be + subject + verb 3 + (by + object)?
 S + to be + v3 + (by + object)

Active: I love you

Passive: You are loved by me

Active: Today they buy 5 cakes

Passive: Today 5 cakes are bought by them
