What are we going to
do?
General Task Description:
• The students will be divided into seven groups. Each group
is assigned to a specific topic about Science, Technology
and Society.
• They will report on the assigned topics, highlighting the
important concepts that needed to be understand in that
lesson. They will integrate the research or journal article
that they have reviewed relating to the area of their lesson.
• The manuscript of the term paper is going to be submitted
before the final exam together with the PowerPoint
presentation.
Scenario:

Title/ Main Topic

Scope (Subtopic)

1. Report about the topic & integrate what you have research
2. Submit the Synthesis of your reviews together with the individual
reviews.
Reporting

Instructions: Students will present

through MS Teams their assigned
topics in Science, Technology and
Society. Each group can choose from
one up to five reporters. The
presenters are given a maximum of
15 minutes to explain and highlight
important concepts of their
presentation. The rubric provided at
page 3 will be used to grade the
presentation.
Term Paper

Instructions: Students will critique or

review at least five research or
journal article relating to their
designated subject matter. They will
integrate the synthesis of the
critique or review in their
presentation of their assigned topic.
What is Synthesis?
A synthesis is more than a list of findings from the included studies. It
is an attempt to integrate the information from the individual studies to
produce a ‘better’ answer to the review question than is provided by the
individual studies. Each stage of the review contributes toward the
synthesis and so decisions made in earlier stages of the review shape
the possibilities for synthesis. All types of synthesis involve some kind
of data transformation that is achieved through common analytic steps:
searching for patterns in data; Checking the quality of the synthesis;
Integrating data to answer the review question (Thomas et al. 2012).
The techniques used to achieve these vary for different types of
synthesis and may appear more or less evident as distinct steps.

Agenda for the Month of January 2022:
January 3, 4, 5, 6 & 7 = No reporting for this week, the instructor will meet the students (once) this
week through a virtual meet in their MS Teams. For the asynchronous sessions, the students will use
the time in their remaining schedules (in that week) to further enhance their presentation and term
paper.
January 10, 11, 12, 13 & 14 = The presentations will start this week, two synchronous meetings are
scheduled. The first to report are Group no. 1, 2, & 3 (1st Synchronous Session for that week) then for
the next meeting, Group no. 4, 5 & 6 will report (2nd Synchronous Session for that week).
January 17 & 18 = The last day(s) of the reporting. Group no. 7 will present the last topic.
January 20 up to 24 = Starting from January 20, the instructor will open the Assignment Feature
where each group will submit their term paper. Each group will have one representative that will turn-
in their output. This said assignment feature will close on January 24, 2022 at exactly 11:59 PM.
Be informed that once the mentioned due date elapsed, the instructor will still accept late submissions
from the students but will deduct 5 points for each passing day of late turn-ins in the final score of their
output.
It is worth noting that TIME MANAGEMENT and COLLABORATION is the key in accomplishing the
final requirements for this course. If one or two (or more) members failed to adhere in those principles,
as King Lear, Act 1, Scene 1 in Shakespeare’s play said “NOTHING WILL COME OF NOTHING.”
