The particle model - Kinetic particle theory
The kinetic particle theory explains the properties of the different
states of matter. The particles in solids, liquids and gases have different
amounts of energy. They are arranged differently and move in different
ways.

Particle motion and movement
• In a solid, particles have strong forces of attraction and vibrate in fixed regular positions.
• In a liquid, particles are close but can move past each other in irregular arrangements,
randomly and at low speeds.
• In a gas, there are no forces of attraction between particles. Particles have the most energy
and move randomly at high speed.
