Reading Strategies
 Reading Strategies- helps every reader to improve their
reading comprehension.
 Pre-Reading Strategies- helps the reader effectively
understand the content of the books to better comprehend
the material. Reading a text beforehand to build
background knowledge.

Pre-Reading Strategies
Previewing
 Means looking at the reading visible parts of the text such
as titles, subtitles, visuals, graphs, pictures and charts.
Skimming and Scanning

 These are Reading techniques that use rapid eye movement and
keywords to move quickly through text for slight different purposes.
 Skimming means look for the main point of the reading and identify
the ideas that develop it. (MAIN IDEA)
 Scanning means looking for specific information.(INFORMATION)
Recalling Background Knowledge

 Means as you read, you make sense of the text by


seeing how it fit, with what you already know.
 Acquire through past reading experience ,
knowledge that you have learned before.
