GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM

he main purpose of a cab suspension system for agricultural vehicles is to reduce the vibrations felt by the driver,
y suitably filtering out the effects of unevenness in the road surface (or the soil) and consequently guaranteeing an improved ride in terms
f driver comfort.
he system must also be protected from the risk of mechanical damage occurring.
One of the critical points to address when designing suspension systems for vehicles of this type is the different types of work involved:

Transport (on-road), characterized by short damper strokes and high speeds;

Field (off-road), characterized by low speeds and long damper strokes.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM

Using a semi-active type of suspension, where the damping coefficient can be modulated in real time
according to the operating conditions, a compromise can be found to resolve the design issue mentioned above.
Magneto-Rheological Damper(MR-D)
This technology exploits the properties of a magneto-rheological fluid that consists of an oil containing polarizable particles
(iron spheres of micrometric diameter) in suspension.
The viscosity parameters of the fluid can be modified controllably through the application of a
magnetic field generated by a coil positioned internally of the damper cylinder.
The viscosity of the fluid can be varied continuously, simply by modulating the voltage applied to the coil, and with
notably fast response times (less than 2 ms).

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF SYSTEM

The main advantages obtainable from the adoption of this technology, compared to other other semi-active technologies (e.g.
electrohydraulic) are:
• Reduction in response times:
• No moving mechanical parts.

UTILIZATION BY THE OPERATOR

A button located in the cab allows users to select the suspension configuration that best suits their individual preferences.
In addition, the Supervisor receives signals through the tractor CAN-BUS enabling it to identify given types of events that can
cause the user discomfort.
The events in question are:

• BRAKING — ROUTINE AND “VIOLENT”;

• SUDDEN ACCELERATION
• SHUTTLE MANOEUVRES
• RANGE CHANGES
• RIDGES AND POTHOLES
• STEERING AT SPEED

UTILIZATION BY THE OPERATOR

The driver can select the level of damping in the cab by means of a rocker switch located on the console
in the cab.

Pressing the switch to increase or reduce the level of damping provided by the suspension, a bar indicating
the current level will appear on the display of the instrument panel for 3 seconds approximately

UTILIZATION BY THE OPERATOR

The entire system is controlled and monitored diagnostically by the HLHP control unit.
There are 5 components monitored:

• Lx damper (PWM)
• Rx damper (PWM)
• Sensor incorporated into Lx damper
• Sensor incorporated into Rx damper
• Control

The following table lists the alarm codes and the relative failure modes for each component; also indicated are the
corresponding messages displayed on the instrument panel

SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS
First of all the system must be activated, otherwise the suspension components will not be monitored.
This does not affect the functional efficiency of the vehicle, but can result in discomfort to the driver
To activate the system, go to the CALIBRATIONS MENU screen and select item (1), which corresponds
to the “CAB MR-D” application, then select item (1) again to access the activation screen.
At this point, the tester will display the status of the system (1 ACTIVATED, 0 DEACTIVATED)
To activate (or deactivate) the system, select (1) again

SYSTEM DIAGNOSTICS
Once the system is activated, calibration can be performed. Accordingly, from the CALIBRATION screen, select item (2)

Now, unscrew the stem of the levelling valve positioned at the rear and proceed to lower the cab, by means of the valve,
to its bottom travel limit; press (C), then raise the cab to the upper limit and press (C)

Finally, regulate the position of the cab at mid-stroke until the tester shows the message “OK”
(dCorsa+- 4mm), press(C) to confirm, and retighten the valve stem
