Introduction
• Stairs is a set of steps which give access from floor to floor.
• Staircase provide access & communication between floors in multi-storey
buildings.
• Staircase must be enclosed by fire resisting walls, floors, ceilings and
doors.
• It must be designed to carry certain loads.

Ground floor to first floor= 3.3m
area of staircase=4.5mX2.5m
no. of flights=2
length of flights
=1.65m
riser height is btn 4 inches(100mm) to 7 inches(175mm)
no. of risers , consider 150mm
=1650/150
=11
treads consider 225mm
no. of treads = 11-1 =10
Width of 1 flight =1.2
length of flight=10x0.225 =2.25
width of landing= length of staircase – length of flight
=4.5-2.25/2
=1.125m
(because there are two landings)
pitch of staircase=arctan(1.65/2.25)
=36◦
