 Rhythmic Gymnastics
• Rhythmic Gymnastics is a fusion of sport and art;
combining elements of ballet, gymnastics and skillful
manipulation of the ball, rope, ribbon, hoop or cube;
throwing, spinning, rolling and catching it.
• The choreography is performed individually or in a
group of up to five people and must cover the entire
floor with a balance of jumping, leaping, balancing and
pivots.
• The sport requires a high level of athletic skill, key
movements, strength, flexibility, endurance and hand-
eye coordination.
• In 1989 Rhythmic Gymnastics became an event in the
Gymnastics competitions and in 1989 national
gymnast Faiznur Miskin took home five gold medals
in the rhythmic gymnastics team and individual
events.
• Her success convinced the Olympic Council of
Malaysia and National Sports Council of Malaysia
that gymnastics was a sport that Malaysia could excel
at on a global level.

Farah Ann Abdul Hadi (pic) can thank her lucky stars for
her golden outing in the Ukraine International Cup.
The artistic gymnast won in the uneven bar event which
was held in Kiev from March 30 to April 1.
