Topic: Introduction to Biology


 
1. BIOLOGY = is the study of life.
= is the study of the relationship between the living things and non living things.
2. MAIN BRANCHES:
a) BOTANY= Study of plants. Sub branches are Dendrology, Mycology, Paleonbotany, Phytopathology,
Agriculture and Pomology.
b) ZOOLOGY = Study of Animals. Sub branches are Arachnology, Conchology, Embryology, Entomology,
Herpetology, Mammalogy, Ornithology, and Ichthyology.
3. Some other branches of Biology:
Anatomy, Physiology, Ecology, Parasitology, Taxonomy, Embryology, Cytology, Microbiology, Paleontology,
Genetics, Morphology, Histology, and Virology.
4. The study of Biology is essential in understanding our human body, health, heredity, diversity, and
interdependence among organisms, also the need to protect ecological balance that sustains life on
earth.
5. Biology also includes the study of evolutionary relationships among organisms and the diversity of life
on Earth.
