Abstract
Reactive Dye and Pigment printing are using widely in our industries for fabric processing The
aim of this work is to evaluate on Reactive dye and Pigment printing of knit fabric as well as
test on visual appearance, Reflectance percentage, wash, rubbing and perspiration fastness
properties.
In this work, three different designs were selected to print the single jersey knit fabric
samples. The samples were flat screen printed Scoured and bleached single jersey cotton
knitted fabric of 140 GSM was selected.
SWOT ANALYSIS
STRENGTH
● Pigment Printing is applicable for almost all kind of fibers
● Pigment Printing doesnt need washing for fixation
● Reactive Dyes give brighter shades
● Reactive Printed fabric exhibits better air permeability
● Reflectance property of Reactive dyes fabric is greater than pigment dyes fabric
● Pigment Printing is suitable for bright and darker shades due to low reflectance in all wavelength
● Reactive dyes are suitable for lighter shades
● Color Wash fastness of Reactive Dyes are better than Pigment Printed dyes
● Color Rubbing Fastness of dry fabric is good for both types.
● Color fastness for acid perspiration is better for reactive dyes than pigment printed fabric
● Color fastness for alkali perspiration is better for pigment printing than reactive dye fabric
Weakness
● Curing at high temperature required for pigment printing
● Poor crock fastness of Pigment Printed fabric
● Reactive dyes are not suitable for artificial fibers
● Binder is compulsory for Pigment Printing
● Steaming is must for Reactive dyes
● Reactive dyes are not suitable for brighter and darker shades due to high reflectance
● For pure black color, Reactive dyes are not suitable due to high reflectance
● Color Rubbing Fastness of wet fabric is slightly poor for pigment printed then reactive
dye fabric
Opportunity
● If we develop water efficient process for Reactive dyes we can make good wash and
rubbing fastness cloth using less energy
● If we develop curing free process for Pigment dyes, we can have good shade fabrics by
saving so much energy
● With Proper research we can develop methods to apply reactive dyes in all type of
fabrics
Threats
● Reactive Dyes Printing is not sustainable to environment due to extensive washing
required for fixation that causes huge amount of water wastage
● Pigment Dyes is not sustainable to environment due to high temperature curing required
for fixation that causes huge energy consumption
● Low Rubbing fastness of wet pigment printed fabric is dangerous for human health
