stomach

SMALL
INTESTINE
SMALL INTESTINE
 Because of its diameter
 Longer than large intestine
 6m long
 In abdominal cavity
 Extend from pyloric shincter to ileocecal
valve
PARTS
 Duodenum
 Jejunum
 ileum
DUODENUM
 C shape
 Join stomach to jejunum
 Receive opening of bile and pancreatic duct
 Curve around head of pancrease
 The 1st inche resemble stomach
PARTS
 In epigastric and umbilical region
 1st part begin at pyloric run backward and
downward
 2nd part run vertically downward in front of
hilum of right kidney on right of 2nd and 3rd
lumber vertebrae
DUODENUM
 25cm long
 C shape tube
 Join stomach jejunum
 Upper fixed part
 Curve around the head of pancrease
 Hepatopancreatic ampulla
 Duodenal papilla
 Hepatopancreatic sphincter
MUCOUS MEMBRANE
 It is thick
 In 1st part it is smooth
 In remaining parts it has numerous folds
 The site at which bile duct and main
pancreatic duct pierce the medial wall od 2 nd
part is a small rounded elevation called
duodenal papilla
BLOOD SUPPLY
 Upper half by superior pancreaticoduodenal
artery that is a branch of gastroduodenal
artery
 The lower half by inferior
pancreaticoduodenal artery
JEJUNUM
 Middle section
 Mobile part
 2 meter
 Begins at duodenojejunal flexure
 It lies coiled in upper parts of peritoneal
cavity
 It is wider broader and thicker walled and
Redder than the ileum
BLOOD SUPPLY
 Branches of superior mesentric artery
LYMH DRAINAGE AND NERVE
SUPPLY
 Superior meseteric node
 Sympathetic and parasympathetic nerve from
suprior mesenteric nervous system
ILEUM
 Terminal portion
 3m long
 At end has ileocecal valve
STRUCTURE
 4 layers
 Pertitoneum
 Mucosa
PERITONEUM
 Double layer
 Attach jejunum and ileum to post abdominal
wall
 Blood vessels and nerve pass through it
MUCOSA
 Villi
 Microvillus
VILLI
 Finger like projections
 The begin in 2nd part of small intestine
 They are permanent folds

 0.5 to 1 mm
 Covered by epithelial cell and enterocyts
 These cell contain blood capillries and lymph
capillary
SMALL INTESTINE
 Because of diameter
 Larger than large intestine.

Location
In abdominal cavity from pyloric sphincter to
ileocecal valve
GOBLET CELLS

 Secrete mucus
 Spread between enterocytes
LACTEALS
 Lymph capillaries
 Because of milky appearance
INTESTINAL GLAND
 Tubular gland
 Between villi
 Entire epithelium is replaced every 3 to 5
days
 During migration they produce digestive
enzyme that togather with intestinal juice
digest component of food
LYMPH NODE

 Numerous lymph nodes

 Solitary lymphatic follicles
 Aggregated lymphatic follicles
 They packed with defensive cells
