what information they need, where to get it,
how to get the information, and in the end,
how to use it.”

Characteristics of Information Society

1. Information Economy:
Information is used as an economic resource.
Organizations make greater use of information to
increase their efficiency, to stimulate innovation and
to increase their effectiveness and competitive
position, often through improvements in the quality
of the goods and services that they produce. There is
also a trend towards the development of more
information-intensive organizations that add greater
amounts of value and thus benefit a country’s overall
economy.

2. Focus on better Education:
In order to be a competitive and knowledge based, the economies of
each country must become better in creating knowledge through
research and development, in the distribution of knowledge by
education, and in the application of knowledge through innovation. This
is imposed as one of the key conditions for the development of society
and economy at the present time, and therefore as one of the basic
characteristics of the information society, that is the knowledge society.
In order to keep pace with modern trends, which is of key importance
for economic development, society must have a large percentage of
highly educated population, and large state investment in education,
science and research.

3. Tele-communicational Age:
In the computer age we deal with conceptual
space connected by electronics rather than
physical space connected by vehicles. By this
we mean that the society transfers information
through electronic methods rather than the old
physical transfer methods.
Thus the information society has no physical
barriers against exchange of information.

4. Replacing Marx Theory of Labor Value:

The theory's basic claim is simple: the value of a
commodity can be objectively measured by the
average number of labor hours required to produce
that commodity. The Marx theory has been replaced
replaced by Knowledge Theory of Value. In fact, the
amount of labor that goes into making things is only
one part of what determines the cost, and the cost is
only one part of what determines the price. The Labor
Theory of Value, as a theory of where prices actually
come from, is pretty useless.

accountants, doctors, nurses, social

insurance workers, bankers etc.

6) Information is Wealth:
Information is compared with wealth like
capital in the industrial society. The industrial
society core understanding was that to build an
grow and industry it required wealth(capital).
Like this the informational society takes data
as capital for only growth of human society but
also uplifting living standards and increasing
product quality.
