●(MILF; Arabic: ‫ جبهـة تــــحرير مـورو اــإلسالمـية‬Jabhat Tahrīr
Moro al-ʿIslāmiyyah) is a group based in Mindanao,
Philippines seeking an autonomous region of the Moro
people from the central government. The group has a
presence in the Bangsamoro region of Mindanao, the
Sulu Archipelago, Palawan, Basilan, and other
neighboring islands.

●In1984, the New MNLF officially changed its

name to the Moro Islamic Liberation Front
(MILF) in order to distinguish itself completely
from the MNLF and indicate its Islamic focus.

What is the MILF fighting for?

Main goal is to establish an independent Islamic state, in the Muslim-dominated
Mindanao region of the Philippines for the Filipino Muslim minority, known as the Moro
people, who dwell largely in the Philippines’ Mindanao region. The MILF is the major
group fighting for independence for largely Muslim portions of the country's south and
identity as the Moro people.

July 10, 2007

While attempting to rescue an Italian captive held
by the Abu Sayyaf Group, Philippine Marines were
attacked in a MILF-controlled zone (ASG).
Numerous Marines were beheaded. The MILF took
responsibility for the incident, and the attackers
apparently included members of the ASG (18-43
killed, 9+ wounded).

January 25, 2015:

In an operation in Maguindanao, Philippine Special Action
Force (SAF) forces targeted two main bomb fabricators. The
troops were ambushed during the chase by rebel forces that
included MILF members. The MILF acknowledged its members'
involvement, but added that the SAF operation was not planned
with them, as required by a ceasefire deal with the government.
After this attack (about 55 killed, 12+ wounded), consideration
of the BLBAR was briefly halted.

April 17, 2017

The MILF claimed responsibility for two
coordinated strikes in the Philippines' Sultan
Kudarat province. One explosive device exploded
near a petrol station, while another was aimed at
police officers reacting to an earlier incident. There
were no fatalities, however five civilians and nine
police officers sustained injuries (0 killed, 14
injured)

sovereignty of Philippines. 

MNLF is a gun-free organization. The organization has no assets, no guns. All guns
are privately owned and are encouraged to be registered for licensing into the PNP

MNLF don't kill Philippine troops. MNLFs are self-funded

at the individual level.
