Introduction
■ The electronics industry, especially meaning consumer electronics,emerged in the 20th
century and has now become a global industry worth billions of dollars.
■ The industry now employs large numbers of electronic engiineers and electronic
technician
■ Common parts manufactured are connectors, system components, cell systems, computer
accessories.
■ The materials used to manufacture theseare made of alloy steel, copper, brass, stainless
steel, plastic and steel tubing.
Consumer electronics
■ Consumer electronics are products intended for everyday use, most often
in entertainment, communications and office productivity. 
■ Radio Broadcasting  in the early 20th century brought the first major consumer product, the
broadcast receiver. 
■ CE today are: personal computers, TV sets, game consoles, tablets, smartphones,
portable music players, navigation devices, digital cameras, audio or video
recorders, DVD players, but also emerging product categories such as e-
readers, wearables or 3D printers.
■ The CEA (Consumer Electronic Association) estimated the value of 2018 consumer electronics
sales at US$319 billion or INR ₹ 21,98,700cr.
Challenges in the Electronics Retail Market

■ Electronic Retail, in USA is becoming increasingly competitive and fragmented while


experiencing a unique set of challenges.
■ Many electronics brands are now offering their products at their own stores as a
means of becoming more profitable. 
■ These stores compete with flagship retailers, such as Best Buy , for customer traffic.
Online stores, such as Amazon , also compete for customer spending and offer
products not available in traditional stores.
■ Changes resulting from store closures, mergers and acquisitions, and declining prices
are pressuring the electronics sector to become more efficient and more profitable. 
Organised and unorganized retailing

■ Organised retailing refers to trading


activities undertaken by licensed
retailers, that is, those who are
registered for sales tax, income tax,
etc.
■ Unorganised retailing, on the other
hand, refers to the traditional formats
of low-cost retailing, for example, the
local kirana shops, owner manned
general stores, convenience stores,
hand cart and pavement vendors, etc.
Leading electronic brands in usa
■ Samsung : One of the most familiar brands in consumer electronics,
Samsung develops and manufactures TVs, monitors, mobile devices
(including smartphones), and home appliances. 
■ Dell : When it comes to consumer electronics manufacturers, Dell offers
one of the most widespread array of products and has done so for
decades.
■ HP : Originally named the Hewlett-Packard Company, HP focuses on
innovation, reinvention, The company manufactures laptops & tablets,
desktops, printers, ink & toner, and displays & accessories.
■ Apple : Steve Jobs certainly pioneered a new path in consumer
electronics with Apple, and the company is still famed for its innovative
design and user experience.
■ LG : LG demonstrates the highest shopping ad visibility within the TV category
and is one of few brands to garner shopping ad visibility across all categories. 
■ Canon : Taking consumer engagement to the next level, Canon is leading its
competitors in e-tailer visibility with creative photo competitions to connect with
its customers.
■ Sony : Producing the full gamut of consumer electronics from home theater
equipment, cameras, speakers and headphones, in-car electronics, memory
cards, cell phones, Playstation (games and consoles) and even music, Sony is
incredibly versatile in this industry. 
■ Beats : In 2006, Dr. Dre and Jimmy Lovine founded Beats, a premium consumer
electronics brand that manufactures high-end audio equipment such as
headphones, earphones and speakers. It was acquired by Apple in 2014,
■ GoPro : Travel, adventure, and the innovation of the camera technology produced
by GoPro has transformed experiences worldwide in an accessible, inspiring way.
GoPro can can shoot in 4K, has a touch screen and voice control, video
stabilization, and can film underwater up to 33 feet.
■ Nikon : Microscopes, industrial metrology systems, semiconductor lithography,
and FPD lithography systems are all electronics equipment that Nikon produces
in addition to its consumer electronics manufacturing of cameras, lenses,
speedlights, binoculars and more.
Visual merchandising to enhance sales
■ Sales of electronics goods are increasing online in such a scenario visual
merchandising combined with sales promotion schemes may become one of
the important tools to attract consumers into these stores.
■ The effective utilization of visual merchandising as tools for promoting
electronics goods’ sale has been not so effective.
■ The impact of visual merchandising on consumer buying behavior for
electronics goods also suggests utilization of technology to enhance the
