 What is Communication?

 The word communication is derived from the Latin


word “Communis” which means
‘to share’’
“To make known”
 Why it is in the Latin language?

information & understanding from one person to
another.

 Sender:
 Sender is the first major element of
communication.
 Sender is the person who intends to pass

knowledge, ideas thoughts and information.


 Functions of sender:

1] To select proper medium.

3] To transmit the message
4] To receive the feedback

 Message:

 Message is the information passed from


sender to the receiver.
 The message should be simple and clear.
 Success of communication depends on clear

message.
 Channel / Medium
 Channel is the link used for communication.
 It can be verbal or non-verbal.
 Selection of suitable channel is necessary.
 Chanel can be: Telephone, mobile ,letter, fax,

internet, etc…
Receiver
 The person who receives the message is
known as receiver.
 One of the active element.
 Functions:

1] To receive the message.


2] To decode the message
3] To give feedback.
Decoding is the process related with the
receiver.
To translate or interpret the message
Feedback

 It is the last element of communication.


 It is the response given by receiver to the

sender.
 Without feedback communication remains

incomplete.
 Feedback must be honest and constructive
 It is of two types---
