Verbal processes are a particularly useful tool for the linguistic

analysis of media texts because they are what Halliday calls
predicates of communication.
Verbal processes are the element of the clause used to introduce
speech. Analysis of verbal processes in media texts can reveal much
about the journalist's attitude towards the person whose words are
being reported (the sayer) and about how the journalist can push the
reader towards a certain view of that person.

Process

Relational Process
Relational processes tell about what things are, what they are like and what
they possess.
There are two types of relational processes, attributive relational process
assign attribute of something and identifying relational processes identify
one participant by equating it with another participant. The additional
meaning for the relational clause is possessive relational process.Relational
Process
Relational Process is one type of process that is used to express a verb that
can describe the state of the participant and can also signal ownership.
Two types of relational procces.
1. Attributive relational procces:
- a procces of giving attribute to a thing.
-patricipants : carrier and attribute
-types of attributives :
- appearance : be, seem, appear, sound,look, smell,etc.
- phrase: become, remain, turn, grow.
Example:1. He is at home.

2. Identifying relational procces.

- a procces of giving a value to thing.
- participants: token and value
- types:
Tobe :is, am, are, was,were.
Equality: equal, add up too, make, come out.
Signification: signify, expound, code, encode express write.
