SOLDERING (INTRODUCTION) :
• Soldering is a process in which two or more items are joined together by melting and
putting a solder into the joint, the solder has a lower melting point than the adjoining
metal.
• Solder is a metal alloy used to create strong permanent bonds; such as copper joining in
circuit boards and copper pipe joints.
• Temperature of soldering depends on the metals used as solder and their composition.
Here, we are using 60% TIN 40% LEAD solder having a melting point of 190 degree
Celsius.
• Soldering Iron : A soldering iron is a hand tool used to heat solder, usually from an
electrical supply at high temperatures above the melting point of the metal alloy. This
allows for the solder to flow between the workpieces needing to be joined.

• Some common types of soldering iron : Conical, Chisel, Knife, Bevel and
Needle.

• To avoid the formation of an oxidation layer, we can use flux. Flux is a

substance that dissolves the oxidation layer and it comes in a paste form. It
allows you to work without any hindrance.
APPLICATION OF SOLDERING :

• Soldering is widely used in the electronics industry for electrical connections,

such as joining copper to printed circuit boards.
• It is also used by plumbers to join together copper pipes. The reversible
effects are why it is very useful in many industries, and you even see it
employed in jewellery.
BRAZING (INTRODUCTION) :

• Joining of two metals without preparing any joint is called as brazing

operation. The mechanism of the joint is Wetting and Surface Alloying.
• The temperature of the joint must be greater than the melting point of metals.
So here in the case of brazing, the temperature of the joint must be greater
than 450-degree centigrade.
• It is a process of joining similar or dissimilar metals using filler material. The
filler material is called Spelter and the filler material is made up of Copper
alloy.
APPLICATION OF BRAZING :
• Brazing is used for the fastening of pipe fittings, carbide tips on tools, heat
exchangers, electrical parts, radiators, axles, etc.
• It can join cast metals to wrought metals, dissimilar metals, porous metal
components, etc.
• It is used to join parts of the bicycle such as frame and rims.
