MEANING OF TEACHER STUDENT
RELATIONSHIP

• The concept of teacher student relationship points


out how every student feel the teacher ‘s emotional
support to him
• If the student feels that his teacher is emotionally
close to him and has more concern to him, we can
infer that there is a positive relationship between
the two.
THINGS NOTICEABLE IN A CLASSROOM
WITH POSITIVE STUDENT-TEACHER
RELATIONSHIP
• Teacher feeling his presence in the midst of his
students as a pleasurable experience.
• Students do not hesitate to seek help from the
teacher and ask him to clear their doubts.
• The teacher gently hints at his knowledge, now
and then ,about the students prior knowledge, their
interests,stage of emotional development, family
background and academic attainment.
• Teacher encouraging students to behave according to the ethos of
the society, such as addressing every one with respect, avoiding
harsh words and behaving in such a manner as to show their
regard and respect to teachers and elders.
• Teachers, while putting questions to the students allows some time
for them to answer and also provides them some cues to answer.
• Teacher helps students to reflect on their thoughts and learning.
• Teacher never showing his irritation to the students.
• Teacher not getting angry with his students and
refrain from scolding or beating them.
• Teacher interacts more with shy students as well as
aggressive students in the class and that too
individually.
• Teacher is well aware of what he expresses to the
students, both explicitly and implicitly.
• Teacher shows keen interest in having cordial
relationship with students and tries to promote the
same among the students also.
• Teacher treats all students with dignity.
• Teacher always calls his students by their names.
• Teacher shows no discrimination among the students and
treats all of them equally.
• Teacher has enormous faith and high expectations of his
students
NEED FOR MAINTAINING GOOD
TEACHER-STUDENT RELATIONSHIP:

• In classrooms, where good teacher student relationship


is absent, there is every danger of both students and
teachers mental health getting affected.
• In classrooms, where there is no good teacher student
relationship, some students may exhibit maladjusted
behavior and also disrupt the classroom activities.
• The positive/healthy relationship prevailing between
the teacher and students increases students self
motivation in learning.
• When there is good classroom relationship between
the teacher and students, the students understand the
teacher ‘s expectation from them of high level of
learning and accordingly put in more effort on their
part.
• Teachers who enjoy good relationship with the
students are able to increasingly involve their
students in classroom learning activities.
• If there is no good teacher-student relationship, then
students learning outcomes may get severely
affected.
• Students entering the classroom where there is no
cordial teacher-student relationship, increases their
anxiety and mental stress.
