Introduction
• Dynamic traffic flow and static traffic signal is major
problem which results in congestion of traffic.

• The traffic signal lights control system now adopted in

the city are static, though they are tuned according to
past traffic data they are not dynamic enough to change
according to the current time

• Traffic signals being controlled by many methods

• Time based
• Cycle timing 2
Traffic jams are severe and prominent during the rush
hours.

 One has to invest much time in traveling from one place

to another than he/she would spend without traffic which,
in turn, increases the consumption of fuel.

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN)
• Similar to Central Nervous System, end systems act as
neurons

• Also known as Intelligent Network

• Capable of machine learning/pattern recognition

• Sensors or other data feeds are used for learning

Literature Survey
The project creates a graph of traffic density in a minute,
in an hour, etc. Accordingly, a graph is charted to help
determine the variations in traffic.

 It focuses on increasing the transport efficiency without

any additional infrastructure. It also proposes a traffic
control by assessing the density of the real-time traffic
Algorithmic Structure
We divide our application in two main topics:
Traffic Density Estimation
 Decision Making based on the Estimation.
The first part receives the live camera image of every
lane facing towards the traffic junction. Using this
information, it then deals with determining the traffic
density on each of the lanes.
 Using this information, the task of the second part is
then to set up the optimal traffic light state considering
also all of the requirements.
Continuous Learning of the System

• Initially, system learns traffic patterns from deep neural

network system

• In next stage, weighted learning is followed

• Fuzzy logic is applied for fluctuating neurons

Hardware And Software Details
 Rasberry pi 4

 Surveillance Camera for image processing

 Matlab

 Open Cv
Advantages

• Effectively controls traffic signal in dynamically

changing environment.

• Barely affected by traffic problem complexity.

• Least maintenance.

12
Limitations
• May not be suitable for all countries, where peak traffic is much
less than the regular traffic

• High initial investment

• Implementation and offline optimizations are time consuming

13
Conclusio
n
• This Neural Network for Real Time Traffic Signal Control works almost
flawlessly, and is capable of easing the load of traffic control from
Government bodies by automating the process.
