Science education is about teaching,
learning, and understanding science in the
most effective ways possible. Learning
science includes pedagogical models and
helping students develop love for the
subject.

Dewey (2001) suggest to utilize the


environment in teaching to enrich learning
through social activities. While Marx (1994)
stated that science is going to be one of the
most important subjects in the future.

In basic education, science education is
aimed at equipping students with
important facts and concepts while imbuing
them with curiosity creativity,
innovativeness, and most of all, love for
knowledge.

In tertiary education, science education


aims in developing students’ appreciation
for scientific works and ideas, preparing
them for science-related professions.
SCIENCE
SCHOOLS IN THE

This school is a service institute of the Department of
Science and Technology (DOST) whose mandate is to offer
scholarships in the secondary. Its intention is to prepare
students to pursue science-related courses or careers (RA
3661).
Since its inception, it still continues to pursue its vision
molding the Filipino students to become scientifically
literate with passion for excellence. It has brought honor to
our country with its various international awards in research
and other competitions.

Philippine Science High


School System (PSHSS)
This project is in pursuance to DepEd Order No. 73 s. 2008, and
DepEd Order No. 51 s. 2010. It started in June 2007 with 57 identified
elementary schools including those that participated. Now it has
grown to more than 60 schools nationwide. It aims to:

 Provide a learning environment to science-inclined students


through a special curriculum that caters to students’ multiple
intelligences.
 Promote the development of life-long learning
 Seeks to develop learners holistically

The project utilizes a curriculum that caters to the different


learning styles of students to ensure maximum learning.

Special Science Elementary Schools


(SESS) Project
Former Quezon City Science High School, it was
established on September 17, 1967 and was turned into a
regional science high school for the National Capital Region
in 1999.
This school was established for students who are gifted
in science and mathematics, and the curriculum of this
school focuses on science and technology.

This school is operated under the direction of the


department of education.

Quezon City Regional High


School
Established on October 1, 1963, it is the first science high
school in the Philippines.

It aims to produce scientists with souls that is why even


if their curriculum puts more emphasis on science and
mathematics, humanities and other electives are included in
their curriculum as well.

Manila Science High School


This school is the pioneer of the school-
based innovation known as the Dynamic
Learning Program (DLP). The Dynamic
Learning Program is a “synthesis of classical
and modern pedagogical theories to foster
the highest level of learning, creativity, and
productivity” (Serafica et al. 2018).
